Stop revisionist "Christian nation" House Resolution 888
lush with last year's success in passing H.Res. 847, "Recognizing the importance of Christmas and the Christian Faith," Christian nationalists -- those who would have the United States be governed as a Christian theocracy -- are pushing H.Res. 888, another resolution which promotes a false and distorted "Christian nation" reinterpretation of our history. Generally, we do not take action regarding resolutions because they are ceremonial in nature and express the non-binding opinion of one chamber. They do not have the force of law.

However, this resolution is so outrageous that YES votes -- even with its ceremonial form -- would send a dangerous message to history and civics educators throughout the United States. Teaching an unbiased account of our nation's founding and its governance will be curtailed; in its place supporters of this resolution clearly call for a revised history of the United States as a Christian nation.
Take Action Now

Additionally, the resolution rejects constitutional requirements that government not establish religion. It calls on "our Nation's public buildings and educational resources" to be permitted to spread its specific revisionist history.

4. WTF is wrong with these people!?
It's called DEISM, look it up. In fact, some of our founding Fathers were agnostics or (borderline?) atheists. Fighting for the right of the people against the Monarchy was against the religious views held by the majority at that time. The Kings were ordained by God to rule over man. It was, they believed, the "Natural Order" of things. So what the founding fathers were doing was downright heretical.

Yes, I am Christian (Catholic.) But the constitution and our history define religion and government as TWO SEPARATE THINGS.

6. Also: Read "Liars for Jesus"
Edited on Tue Jan-08-08 02:08 AM by theredpen
It's a pretty scholarly work detailing the origins of — and debunking — the "Christian Nation" myths. Excerpted text is online (as images) at: http://www.liarsforjesus.com/

You can also http://www.amazon.com/Liars-Jesus-Religious-Alternate-American/dp/1419644386/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1199775260&sr=8-1">buy it at Amazon.com.

This book is not just for the Dawkins/Harris atheist crowd (for one, it's a lot better researched than those authors' books). Really, it's an important read for any believers as well as non-believers who support American Freedom and a secular government.

8. How about H.R. 999, "Recognizing The Earth Is Not Flat."
Why don't those inbred nutjob x-tians just move to Iran? They can elect Pat Robertson as their Ayatollah.

9. Read the Treaty of Tripoli.
It says "The United States is not in any sense a Christian nation." Passed in the 1790s and still the law of the land.

Can we watch their heads explode?

14. I ask them a very simple question...
If this country is a 'xtian' nation, why is it not any where to be found within the Constitution? The only thing that mentions religion is the clear separation between it and the State.

It very simple, if this country was founded upon the babble and its various myths, you would think that it would be clearly defined in the Constitution. But, it is not and all that can be found is a nice list founders who very bluntly stated that this country is in no way founded upon the xtian religion.

I will give them this, the fist colonies where religious fundamentalist, not much unlike what we are faced with in this day an age. But those early colonies were did not define nor do they define today what the Constitution spells out pretty clearly.
