Ohioans prefer Edwards, according to new poll - Obama the weakest with Dems and best with Repubs
Tuesday, January 8, 2008 7:55 AM

A new poll taken the day after the Iowa caucuses last week shows that John Edwards is the top presidential candidate in Ohio.

The Public Policy Institute, based in Raleigh, N.C., has respondents punch in answers on their telephones, a method discounted by some pollsters.

The former North Carolina senator beats all GOP comers by at least 7 points: Arizona Sen. John McCain, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney.

In all, Democrats Edwards, Sen. Hillary Clinton of New York and Sen. Barack Obama of Illinois beat the four GOP leaders in nine of 12 prospective general-election matchups. On the GOP side, McCain did the best, topping both Clinton and Obama.

The survey of 946 voters was conducted Jan. 4; the margin of error is plus or minus 3.1 percentage points.

2. Edwards has ALWAYS polled high in Ohiya
Can't find the links right now, but he's done very well in matchups against GOP candidates, better than any other Dems.

I'll try to post a link later, I'm on the run.

5. Hey there Ozark Dem....
I see you're an Edwards fan as well. I have resolved to stop reading the threads where my anger starts to rise.

In '04, I was simply an ABB (anyone but bush), but this time around, that anti-corporate greed message is music to my ears. I am so sick of this out of control Greed that is destroying our Democracy.

btw, I call Sherrod's office every now and then and tell the staff member how nice it is to call DC and have a person from Ohio on the other end of the line that I love! Of all the new Dem Senators elected, he is by far the best.

3. Give it a month and we'll see how Obama is doing in Ohio
Edwards would be an excellent candidate, but he is also better known in Ohio than Obama from the '04 campaign--both primary and general election. This time around nobody has yet spent much time in Ohio and so it's much too early to say how anybody would do in November in Ohio. More telling is the poll of Iowa from SUSA because all the candidates have campaigned in Iowa--Dem and Rep. Obama does best of all the Dems there winning against four different Reps by 17-40 percent. Iowa is also a state Dems lost in '04.

13. Yes. Hillary is crumbling and Obama will be embarrassed
out of the contest. Edwards will be the next president. The corporatists will be terribly scared of him, but they will find that he turns out to be the best president for all of America (including honest businesses) that we have ever had, bar none.

10. but, there is still no real evidence of that momentum in the rest of the country.
I don't believe Obama will play the same everywhere. What about those states which don't allow independents and republicans to vote in our primaries or participate in our caucuses?

11. The momentum is everywhere
Obama now leads Hillary in some national polling. He was trailing by something like 16 points a two weeks ago.

Rasmussen has Hillary still ahead but within the margin of error, and that slim lead will likely be gone after tonight.

He has something like a 12-point lead in South Carolina.

In head to head polls with all the GOP candidates, he has a 10 point lead at a minimum. The exception is McCain, but McCain will probably not win the nomination. And if he does, his support in the GOP will be extraordinarily shallow.

http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/politics/election_20082/2008_presidential_election/daily_presidential_tracking_poll

The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Tuesday shows that Hillary Clinton’s national polling lead continues to plummet. Her advantage is down to three points in a survey with a four-point margin of sampling error. Before the Iowa caucuses, the former First Lady held a seventeen-point advantage.

In the race for the Democratic Presidential Nomination, it’s now Clinton 32%, Barack Obama 29% and John Edwards 20% (see recent daily numbers). Next update Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. Eastern. RasmussenMarkets.com data suggests that Obama is now the frontrunner for the nomination.

9. I'm telling you
If McCain is their nominee and either Clinton or Obama is ours we are going to have four more years of the repunks. Given the swiftboating that will be cake for either Clinton or Obama and the voting machines and voter suppression we're going to be toast....

and I for one think that McCain is the least crazy of all those guys and to tell you how that compares I think he is BAT CRAP CRAZY....

GOD HELP US

only good thin is I guess he has promised he is only going to run for one term because not only is he bat crap crazy but he is a bit old....

15. On what planet does Obama lose to Huckabee?
Huckabee may not top 40 percent nationally.
