I don't give a flying fuck who wins the Democratic nomination.
Edited on Tue Jan-08-08 02:48 PM by WilliamPitt
I don't support any one candidate.

I support all of them.

My girlfriend has Multiple Sclerosis. Bush has vetoed seven bills while in office, five of which have been health-care related, and three of which directly affect modern science's ability to treat and fucking destroy this goddam disease in her body.

Every GOP candidate appears perfectly ready to continue such a trend if they win, because every GOP candidate needs the "Snowflake Baby"/anti-choice idiotic GOP base to win.

Every Democratic candidate, armed with a friendly congressional majority, will reverse that murderous anti-science trend if they win.

All of them.

So you hepcats can brawl about crying and black people and corporations and the price of houses. That's cool.

Don't expect me to take it seriously, though. None of that has anything to do with making sure my girlfriend doesn't wake up blind or paralyzed someday because no MS cure has been found due to right-wing political nonsense.

Therefore, I don't give a fuck.

Today is my girlfriend's birthday. I'm taking her out to a nice dinner (seafood, her favorite), then out with friends for the night, then home to bed. If she wakes up tomorrow still able to see and walk, that's a good day, and that's what I live for.

(part II of this reasoning is here: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=389x2629949 ...that's for the partisans on DU)

End transmission.

Whoever our candidate is, I am voting for that person.

Whoever our candidate is, he/she will be a whole lot better than that sack of shit we have for a pResident now.

And to get serious, I'm sorry to hear about your girlfriend's MS--I knew a girl who had it and nearly went broke trying to pay her hospital bills and insurance premiums...and you better believe she's angry about Bush caring more about stem cells than her entire 25-year existence.

What a devasting horrible disease to afflict a young person. My niece is Type 1 diabetic, so we are basically in the same boat, except she can be treated.

I really feel the same way. We have to win this, and we have to take in as many Democratic Senators and Congressmen as possible.

I fear voter fraud far more than the success of any candidate. We have to do something to prevent it from happening again. Their side doesn't play fair.

not all of them will fight for Universal healthcare.Only Edwards seems willing to fight for Patients Rights and healthcare. And only Edwards seems willing to fight for the poor and the Middle Class.

I want to support someone who is pledged to real people and only one of our viable Democrats fits the bill. All our Dems may be fine people but only one seems to genuinely want to represent the interests of the people and have a plan to do sio.Just my two cents.

29. I do care who wins
but not enough to join the sad parade of suckers who let the devil in because their favorite saint got short robed by someone more plaid than white. Let the GOP do their own dirty work. Whoever wins the grass roots or populist challenge is fundamentally the same and behind the eight ball. It would be better to believe in our hope itself for a change and get real about AFTER we get in and really get moving.

The Obama phenom or the Edwards grassfire or anything that gets the people moving is greater than the public servant who gets the nod. If we are to participate in what we believe in make it real together not really irrelevant. I said that before. If Hillary wins and Hillary foes want to win the real objective get out there and make it known they owe the doers of her success. Make your plans to get on the ground now and you won't be such a victim of fan disappointment or establishment letdowns. Become the power and the establishment and give the noise a rest. That's just squirrels in a cage.

Whoever it is will feel the pressure from the American people who are sick to death of the way things have been under these "compassionate conservatives" who have killed so many. We will demand that the Dems get this shit done and the American people will see to it that they will push through some of the issues that we have been longing for, including stem cell research. People are out there fighting to make sure that the Dems elect a candidate who won't cave into corporate lobbiest. And he's denigrating their work.

For me, it's simple. Nominate someone willing to fight the corporate establishment, or vote for another party.

There are people on these boards who are battling for the soul of this party.

Many of us see Clinton as THE ENEMY WITHIN.

So, understand, from our point of view, when you come on this board and tell us that our battle is pointless, well, get don't expect a warm welcome.

An improvement (a little less for the war, a little less for big pharma, a little less for the health care industru) isn't enough.

We need an overhaul in the way American government functions.

I am tickled pink that we have a serious candidate (Edwards) talking the talk. It means I don't have abandon the party and support a Nader candidacy.

And don't talk to me like you have any idea about my family, and my friends, and my life.

Just because I don't broadcast my "heartbreak" to make a political point doesn't mean I don't have a personal stake in the outcome of the election.

I agree that we need radical change but I'm in need of some improvement NOW. I simply can't risk another 4 years of a RRRepublican administration. I'm hurting--and I don't "broadcast" my hurts lightly, you'll have to believe me or don't.

I've been fighting on the frontlines for SCR and UHC since long before '04 but I'm a realist. For me, ANY change in Washington is better than none, so the Democratic candidate will get my vote even if I have to hold my nose.

before I'd vote for a Republican right now. We can't afford another 4 years of Republicans, and we Can't afford any more Republican Supreme Court Nominees

Sorry for shouting, but I keep reminding my Dem friends that no matter WHO is the nominee, we have to get behind them 100%.

51. I am continually amazed...
by how often our brains run in the same direction. I am stunned by how little I care about this primary season. Any of them is fine...none of them make me at all excited.

Hug your girlfriend for me and tell her happy birthday.

60. there are so many
diseases that can be cured with modern science. It's way past the time for them to be implemented. I often think about Christopher Reeves and his hard work for spinal cord injuries. What a blessing that would have been if it could have happened while he was alive. It's ridiculous how long this has been blocked.

I'm so sorry to hear about your girlfriend. I watched old boyfriend suffer with that horrible disease. He was a fireman and to not be able to work in what he loved began the slow demise of his spirit.

Hang in there...it's just a matter of time...:)

71. at the very least, we'll get the stem cell research out of bondage with a Dem in
. . . and a president who will sign and advance our efforts will make all of the difference in the world to such research. Terrible lot, MS. Sorry you ggod folks have to suffer through this disease. I can see the frustration and anguish in your posts on this, made all the more aggravating (I imagine) by republican demagogues and industry obstructionists. Hopefully we see more of a focus on health care further along the way.

75. No one cares Will.
You don't give a fuck? That's nice. No one cares.

The rest of us do give a "fuck" - because this is the primary. It is the time, and it is the place to fight for exactly, and precisely, who you feel will make the BEST possible leader for this country. It's not the time or place to just sit around and say, "hey, any candidate will do."

I've only been around a short time, and already I am sick of your posts. Do you realize that just about the only thing you post is an endless stream of finger-wagging arrogant condescending posts lecturing everyone else on how they should act or think? Who are you again and why are you relevant? Oh you wrote a couple books. Then you would think you'd be capable of acting more like a grownup. Your ego stroking lecture posts are really tiring me out already.

My brother in law has MS, and although it's no basket of roses, he's doing pretty well. The meds are horribly expensive, but the effects of the disease are somewhat manageable.

Tell her that the ghost of Elvis, David Bowie and Lumberjack_jeff, (fellow sharers of her birthday) tell her to keep her chin up.

82. I disagree with you
because if Hillary "Chernobyl" Clinton wins the nomination, there is a very good chance we will lose the general election. I know some people here don't like to hear it, and that think that KKKarl Rove is a liar, but on this one point I think he is correct. Hillary HAS one of the highest percentage of people who would never vote for her ever. And it is not just all republicans. A lot of Dems and Indies won't vote for her because of her initial support for the Iraq War and for her saying that torture is sometimes necessary.

83. I've grown weary of other Democrats...
Edited on Wed Jan-09-08 11:37 AM by TwoSparkles
...positioning fellow Democrats as vacuous, non-team-oriented flibbertigibbets--if they
strongly support the views and stances of ONE Dem candidate OR reject the views of one
or some of the Dem candidates.

It's really unfair and a bit self serving.

We've all got our VALID reasons for feeling the way we do, and supporting the candidates that
we do. It's called Democracy.

My central issue is concern that the foundation laid by our Founding Fathers is being bulldozed.
Our Constitution is being treated as an optional after-thought by our current leaders. I want
my children to grow up in a democracy, and if we don't have our Constitution in place--we have absolutely
nothing.

Does this make me better than someone who likes Edwards because he's going after corporate corruption?
Does that make me superior to Richardson supporters who want to end this war now?

No it doesn't. If you support ALL Dem candidate--because of a personal issue, that's valid too.

However, so is being against a Dem candidate...or two...or three.

It's my opinion that Hillary Clinton--based on her votes and her own words--is a proponent of war. She
has used her power as a NY Senator on the Armed Services Committee--to widen the neocon war plan. She's
remained silent on illegal wiretapping and the erosion of our civil rights--and has not called for the closing
of Guantanamo or the restoration of Habeas Corpus--one of our fundamental rights as Americans!

Am I a lesser-than because I hold these views? Because I refuse to hop in the Democratic tent and pretend
that Democrats, aren't in on the fix? Sorry. I can't capitulate because I'm being pressured to go along.

If we lose our democracy---we have no framework under which we can fight for the issues which are most
important to Democrats, including: Education, women's rights, stem-cell research, the mortgage crisis,
climate change, free trade, healthcare, the falling dollar, poverty, Social Security, our standing in the
world, national security, etc., etc.

I respect all of the unique, highly personalized reasons for being in this fight. However, I don't respect fellow
Democrats who urge me to ignore the fall of our Constitution and the erosion of our Democracy--all in the
name of getting along.
