10. I always thought the 'dean scream' was because he won Iowa???
I was for Kerry from the beginning, and it was his to lose and he did...though not because of the vote, but because he refused to question the vote...:grr:

17. No, it was because he lost and he got his supporters riled up.
At the beginning of his "Dean scream" speech he said that they didn't expect to even make it to third place in Iowa.

3. Not without also winning the nomination.
John Kerry is a good example.

8. Right
People have lost in Iowa and/or New Hampshire and still won the nomination, but no one has won in both Iowa and New Hampshire and lost the nomination.

9. You are all fabulously well informed...
I'm busy sulking over the loss of the Golden Globes and possibly the Oscars.

6. NO REPUKE has EVER won both and only twice since 1976 has a Dem:
N.H. race centers on undecided, not Iowa

By Joseph Curl
January 4, 2008

Sen. John McCain, Arizona Republican, lost in Iowa in 2000, then won in New Hampshire by 19 points only to disappear from the field two weeks later.

MANCHESTER, N.H. — The voters of New Hampshire, fiercely independent and, right now, mostly undecided, don't much care what happened last night in the Iowa caucuses, and they often flaunt their independence at the ballot box.

Only twice since 1976 has the same Democrat won both Iowa and New Hampshire in a contested nominating campaign; no Republican candidate ever won both. And more often than not, the winners of the Iowa caucuses — not the New Hampshire primary — went on to win their party's nomination.

"New Hampshire Republicans often offer a contrary voice to that of Iowa Republicans," said Dante Scala, a professor of political science at the University of New Hampshire.

Sen. John McCain of Arizona knows that fact only too well: He lost Iowa to Texas Gov. George W. Bush in 2000, then won the Granite State by 19 points, thanks in large part to independent voters. But two weeks later, he got crushed in South Carolina and disappeared from the Republican field.<snip>

11. I'll help research, but in the mean time...
I heard something interesting on CNN last night.

No President has ever been elected (except in 1972) without winning Iowa or New Hampshire OR both.

I thought that was interesting.

I know that's not what you asked for, but I thought that was interesting...
