For the first time in American history, a woman has won a state's presidential primary
Edited on Tue Jan-08-08 11:37 PM by tgnyc
I'm not a Hillary backer, yet I have to pause to take note. And she's competing with a black man who just won a state's primary for the first time in 2 decades.

We live in historic times.

6. Too bad she's a Republican...
Even though she has that "D" next to her name, she's as much of a Democrat as Joe Lieberman...

I weep for this country if she gets the nomination.

7. Democrats decide who represents us - not you.
The Democrats of NY state have decided Hillary represents them. The NH Democrats have now as well.

Grow up.

9. Pretty bad Republican then:
* Through 2006, she has a lifetime 96% "Liberal Quotient" from Americans for Democratic Action.<257>
* ProgressivePunch gives her a 91.4% lifetime progressive rating, ranking her the 28th most progressive of current senators.<258>
* Through 2006, she has a lifetime 9% rating from the American Conservative Union.<259>
* She received an 'A' (excellent) on the Drum Major Institute's 2005 Congressional Scorecard on middle-class issues.<260>
* The American Civil Liberties Union has given her a 75% lifetime rating through September 2007.<261>
* NARAL Pro-Choice America consistently gave her a 100% pro-choice rating from 2002 to 2006.<262>
* The League of Conservation Voters has given her a lifetime 90% pro-environment action rating through 2006.<263>
* Americans for Better Immigration has given her a lifetime grade of 'D-' (very near failing) through October 2007 on their Immigration-Reduction Report Card.<264>
* The National Rifle Association gave her an 'F' (failing) rating in 2006 for her stance on Second Amendment issues.<265>

17. You cannot stuff statistics down the mouth
of the mob. The results from last night to them is about voter fraud/stolen elections/conspiracies. Damn your facts. They were told by the media that Obama was a tidal wave and that is "reality" for them. The same MSM that they deride now was right? Wow talk about bizzarro world.

out of health care in 1993, a full decade before any other national figure was making it an issue. Definately a conservative.

25. It would be nice if she was actually against the war.
She voted for Kyl-Lieberman, she voted for all the Iraq War funding bills, she voted for the Iraq War resolution. Every time she had a chance to take a stand against the killing of a million people, she passed it up - all that tasty corporate money got her voting in Bush's best interests.

But I'm sure this fact isn't going to get in the way of the Hillary astroturfers here on DU shouting me down.

26. You're not getting shot down-- you're getting presented with some facts and opinions
You're not getting shot down-- you're getting presented with some facts and opinions that refute your thesis.

You said she was a Republican and voted as such. You were presented with her Liberal Quotient Rating a few posts back. You appeared to have ignored those (although I can readily understand why as they don't really back up your assertion) and are now stuck on the Iraqi Occupation.

And then you close with calling her supporters 'astroturfers' which doesn't really help you much in the credibility department...

I got all teary-eyed and happy because a woman won. A woman won a primary for the first time. I was so proud of her. Doesn't matter if I disagree with her on many things, I think she is a wonderful, brave woman.

that finally, in 2008, one of the two parties (ours, natch) is going to nominate either a northerner with solidly middle class roots, who just happens to be either an African American or a woman. And that neither of them has that as their primary theme. Women are voting for the black man, blacks are voting (well, ok, this is harder to tell since neither new Hampshire or Iowa is home to a large black contingent) for the woman. There is no race card, no sex card, just a good, healthy fight about the usual crap (with a few serious issues thrown in for good measure) the republicans threw up six old white men, we have no old white men remaining. How cool is that? Ok ok, mike gravel. I won ten bucks at the bar last night betting on the under which was 300)

38. Who is going to pay to hand count every single election and..
even then, will people still say those counting were in on it?

I am all for recounts when there is good reason to do so. In this case there just is not. MY guy got 17%. I wish he had done better.

34. Y'know tgnyc, thank you for this...
with all the 'history' talk surrounding Obama for days and days, I completely got sidetracked. You are so right. I sat and cried when Pelosi was named Speaker, as an historic event (yes I'm female).

With all the hoopla surrounding NH, I missed the fact that for the first time in our history a woman has won a state's presidential primary! I must be going braindead with all this.

Brain too crowded.
