Is focusing too much on the future helpful?
Edited on Wed Jan-09-08 09:19 AM by timeforarevolution
We all would love the crystal ball - or so we think - so there's always a lot of threads and discussions about "what will happen if?"

In doing my morning scan, I see several stories that STILL have the potential to blow Bushco wide open (thanks as always to kpete and other diligent DUers). I know, I know...we've been waiting for so long for SOMETHING to break open.

But humor me and entertain the thought that, based on the voter turnout thus far, Congress actually starts to DO THEIR JOB. Regardless of who this voter turnout came out for, the simple fact that the electorate is showing up might make the politicians sit up and say, "Oh shit, they're paying attention!"

There are so many things that could happen that are external to these campaigns - and which could influence the campaigns - that it boggles the mind.

Just as I'd like to see the process play itself out and keep our citizens engaged and feeling as though they're playing a part in the process, I'd like to see more discussion about what is happening now. Reviewing the past, certainly, so as to learn, but not projecting too far into the future.

I think keeping our eye on the ball as to what's happening now locally, nationally and globally and how it affects this primary season, and discussing these events and issues, is what I prefer rather than focusing on all the what if's within the various campaigns. It's easy to get sucked into that thought process and lose sight of things.

But, hey, that's just me. I just took a step back this morning and was looking at the big picture and realized we've gotten away from what we normally focus on here at DU and, like the talking heads, have been prognosticating quite a bit. We get angry with them for not being journalists and dealing with what's going on now rather than trying to predict the future.

That's my two cents for the day, and I fully realize it may not be worth even that to most, but I wanted to share it anyway. I'd better get busy after the DU marathon from yesterday.

:hi:

Edited subject line for morning awkwardness...lol
