Pretty low, even for Tweety...

Matthews: Hillary’s succeeding because Bill ‘messed around.’

On MSNBC’s Morning Joe today, Chris Matthews baselessly claimed that the only reason Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-NY) is running for President is because of her husband’s affairs:

Matthews: I think the Hillary appeal has always been about the mix of toughness and sympathy. Let’s not forget, and I’ll be brutal, {b}the reason she’s a US Senator, the reason she’s a candidate for President, the reason she may be a front runner, is that her husband messed around. {…}

That’s how she got to be a Senator from New York. We keep forgetting it. She didn’t win it on her merit, she won because everybody felt, “My God, this woman stood up under humiliation,” right? That’s what happened.

Watch it at link~

As ThinkProgress has tracked in the past, Matthews has consistently been obsessed with Clinton’s sex life.

8. Matthews wife is a former news anchor and now VP of Marriott Hotels. Wonder how they relate?
Edited on Wed Jan-09-08 01:17 PM by terisan
Marriott is owned by Mormons and I always enjoy reading the book of Mormon they place in their hotel rooms. They also used to be one of the top distributors of pornography (another being General Motors). The pay per views movie options in hotels were apparently lucrative. I haven't kept up with this so don't know if it is still true. The NY times did a big story on it many years ago.

I think these commentators would stop intruding into personal lives if we started asking them about their personal lives.

They are, after all, celebrities also, but don't dish up each others personal lives like they do Hollywood types or politcal families. Gossip always sells -as Matthews wel knows.
