Uh-oh. Forget everything else, there is a missing white girl...
http://www.cnn.com/2008/US/01/09/missing.marine/index.html

(CNN) -- A search is under way for a pregnant 20-year-old Marine who has been missing from Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, since December 14.

Lance Cpl. Maria Lauterbach could give birth at any time, Onslow County Sheriff Ed Brown told the Jacksonville, North Carolina, Daily News on Monday.

The sheriff's department said Lauterbach's mother said that her daughter, of Montgomery, Ohio, had witnessed an incident at Camp Lejeune and was to testify about it.

Sheriff's department officials said evidence causes them to be concerned about Lauterbach's disappearance, WITN reported.

The Marine's car was found Monday at Jacksonville's bus station, Brown told the Daily News, and her cell phone had been found at Camp Lejeune's front gate on December 20.

..snip

Guess Nancy Grace and all of the other chattering nabobs in the M$M have something important to cover.

1. I think at this point it does deserve some news coverage (not 24/7 though).
Particularly if she and/or the baby can still be found alive. I hope she's alive and well.

2. i can understand why this is news, she witnessed an incident and then poof she's gone?
so whatever she saw and then testify about was bad enough to make her either run away or be disappeared.

5. i had to testify at a criminal trial once and to be honest i was scared shit less
especially since the perp kept looking at me and the 2 other people that also saw what he did while we were waiting in the hall. I feel worried for this missing woman and i really hope she fled on her own because we know what the alternative is and that ain't good.

7. She joind in June 2006
'Camp Lejeune officials said she joined the Marine Corps in June 2006 and was trained as a personnel clerk.'

Is that girl nuts? Why would such a girl want to join the freaking Marines, especially now?

16. She should be in college
Hard to believe someone like her could be so hard up for money that they would be forced to join the Marines. She could be one of those typical pro-Bush southerners who buy into the 'it's my patriotic duty' crap. Well at least she's putitng her money where her mouth is, which is more than I can say for AWOL and 5-deferment Cheney.

Your posts are a bit disturbing. Why judge her for joining the marines?

26. This is nothing to joke about. She obviously saw or heard something
which may have cost her her life and that of the child she is/was carrying.

12. Wow.. i hope they find her...
Missing Pregnant girls who are about to testify in cases where there testimony is important to the case IS pretty important. Her RACE is not. "Missing Black Girl.. Missing Asian Girl.. Missing Hispanic Girl".. i don't think it really matters.

And nevermind the poor baby she's carrying (or was carrying).. for the sake of the baby alone, this woman needs to be found.

Why is this being reported almost a month after she went missing?? Why ISN'T this all over CNN, etc.? I understand.. between Hillary Crying, and Obama carrying 80 point leads into elections it's tough to squeeze things in, but the Media really need to get on the ball about the important shit.

14. Could you at least PRETEND to show some compassion?
Edited on Wed Jan-09-08 04:49 PM by silverojo
There's more to news than just national and world stories. :eyes:

Oh, yeah...and the racist comment was an especially nice touch. WTF does the missing woman's race have to do with this story? Nancy Grace, et. al., have done stories about many victims who weren't white. I'm sick of this attitude that there's something wrong with being white (like the comments about Iowa and NH). Not every white person is a redneck, sheet-wearing member of the KKK, you know. :grr:

15. I'm sorry if I came across as not caring. It is a tragic event
and thankfully it is getting covering. But like with a lot of other "cases" such as Natalie Holloway, the media fixates on them at the expense of other newsworthy events.

Maybe there should be a channel devoted to missing people to highlight this.

I also like the misogyny angle -- I'm not sure sure could get more bigotry in there, but keep trying!!!

20. Now I am a racist, who doesn't show compassion.
Edited on Wed Jan-09-08 05:06 PM by madinmaryland
I already addressed the compassion issue.

Maybe I've missed the stories, but in the recent past most of the media coverage from the MSM has featured pretty young white women. The only time i seem to see any coverage is on the local news, and that is even sparse.

BTW I am white, if you hadn't guesses already.

25. I read your OP and your title. It makes it clear that you can't distinguish between
"missing white girls."

I'm sorry if you are offended that Natalie Holloway took so much of your viewing time. As someone who doesn't watch a lot of TV, I could advise you that life is better without the boob tube, but then, I'm just another white girl, right?

This particular case of the missing MARINE, pregnant and a witness to a crime, is not fluff and filler for your TeeVee. It is very worrisome because at least one woman in the military has been shot in the back of the head (after finding accounting irregularities) and countless others are being raped and threatened if they come forward. But then, these are all just "white girls", right?
