Nearly a dozen members of a police SWAT team in western Colorado punched a hole in the front door and invaded a family's home with guns drawn, demanding that an 11-year-old boy who had had an accidental fall accompany them to the hospital, on the order of Garfield County Magistrate Lain Leoniak.

The boy's parents and siblings were thrown to the floor at gunpoint and the parents were handcuffed in the weekend assault, and the boy's father told WND it was all because a paramedic was upset the family preferred to care for their son themselves.

Someone, apparently the unidentified paramedic, called police, the sheriff's office and social services, eventually providing Leoniak with a report that generated the magistrate's court order to the sheriff's office for the SWAT team assault on the family's home in a mobile home development outside of Glenwood Springs, the father, Tom Shiflett, told WND.

7. I would have to say that the cops went WAY over the line
but this one is hurting my head.

1. I have an authority problem.
2. I really hate fundies.

So where does that leave me?

16. It could have just as easily been a non-fundie that got raided...
and the fundy wasn't acting in an official capacity, with the sanction and blessing of the government. Nor did he burst into the police station pointing machineguns at the police, whereas the police did, in fact, burst into his house and point machineguns at his family in order to get the kid some more Tylenol.

9. Yes, they did...
“He was rather vulgar in his response,” Vallario said Tuesday. “I was given a court order, and I really don’t feel I have any choice but to comply with that court order.”

The response team also announced its presence and asked for the door to be opened before breaking it in, Vallario said.

They gave both sides of the story. It's a matter of whose story you believe.

13. I am an idiot.
Why the hell I would even bother to read anything from WND is beyond me.

I am evidently becoming senile at the ripe old age of 57.

Thanks for straightening me out on this one.

At this rate, I may soon require a full-time attendant.

14. The father didn't know his ass from his elbow
"horseplay involving a car door" and "facial bruising" can indicate broken bones beneath and/or bleeding where you least want it to occur. The kid needed a series of Xrays to rule out fractures, at the very least.

World Nut Daily never disappoints us with its hysterically biased reporting. I'm glad the kid got checked out and he was OK. I'm glad the cops or the crazy father didn't get hurt or hurt anybody else.

Right wingers consider children their property. They're not, not really.

seems to be a major omission.
