Look at this shit!
Bill would set double standard on primary vote

05:59 PM MST on Monday, January 7, 2008

By PAUL DAVENPORT / Associated Press Writer

PHOENIX (AP) -- A senior Republican legislator wants Arizona independents to be able to vote in the state's presidential primary election and for registered Republicans to also have a choice of party ballots. However, Democrats would have to stick with their own.

Registered independents can pick a party's ballot to cast in the state's September primary election but they can't participate in the presidential primary. That election, which falls on Feb. 5 this year, is open only to registered Republicans or Democrats and only in their own parties.

However, a bill (SB1064) introduced by Sen. Jack Harper, R-Surprise, would let independents pick a ballot to cast in the presidential vote. And Republicans, identified in the bill as voters belonging to the party "with the highest number of registered voters," also would get to choose a ballot. Democrats would get their own party's ballot.

Republicans account for 38 percent of the electorate, Democrats 33 percent, independents 28 percent and Libertarians less than 1 percent.

Harper declined to explain the bill's disparate treatment for Republicans and Democrats, repeatedly telling reporters that the bill's underlying goal was to empower independents.

3. Sorry...
I don't have a picture of the Senator who came up with it. I'm sure his picture would have fit the bill.

2. I got a call from the Democratic Party
here in Arizona telling me about this insane bill, asking me to call Republican Senator Jim Waring about it. He was the guy that co-sponsored it. They don't even try to hide their corruption anymore.

11. It's a double standard bill.
They know that McCain will get the rethuglican nomination here in AZ. But this bill would enable a lot of repubs to switch over and vote on our ballot to try to screw things up for us.

7. Why not have THREE ballots..
republicans have theirs, democrats have theirs

and independents get a ballots with ALL the names on it.....

or just require party members ONLY and set a 6 month pre-re-registration to switch parties..

It's inherently "not" fair to allow outsiders into your own selection process. if they want to "play", they need to declare themselves..

When you have an indoor cat, you do not invite neighborhood strays in..to use the litter box.. it's all poop..but what should you have to scoop all the neighborhood cat poop, when you have one cat.

10. This bill would
let the Independents and Republicans vote on their choice of ballots yet the Democrats would be restricted to only voting on the Democratic ballot. In effect that would let the Republicans have a say as to who we Democrats choose for our presidential candidate.

19. I'm going to watch our local news
but I have a feeling this won't be mentioned. Had I not gotten the phone call I never would have known about this bill until it was all said and done. Unless it gets mentioned on our local Air America station, of course.
