Tim Russert's Regular Driver Lives in My Building
I met her down at the mailboxes a few months back, and noticed she had a very nice MTP logoed coat on (black, long sleeved, with NBC peacock and the MTP logo).

We've become "condo complex conversational," to coin a phrase.

Anyone else have one of those weird six degree of separation dealies?

5. The closest I've come was meeting a woman whose FIL ran a RW radio station.
She seemed so smart and reasonable, which was confirmed when she divorced her husband.

She was peripherally involved in managing a contract with which I was involved as part of my job.

The first time I met her, she related that she was going to quit and start working for the FIL, the second time I spoke with her, she very clearly was doing everything she could to escape that mess.

Timbo, though, that's a whole other level.

He is a frequent visitor; visits mom at least once a week.

Sometimes with his fiancee.

He likes to stand in the door and look out and I never see him smile, but then it's always just a glimpse as I buzz by on my way to my house.

I think he's prob'ly a pretty good son--he buys Mom some nice things, in addition to coming over a lot. They are pretty down-to-earth people. I think his Mom handles a lot of the good works things he does. She is tall, thin, attractive.

I will say this: these people know how to party.

He was also the biggest self-promoter I've ever seen. He had done some kind of research where he discovered that the architect of the capital dome was in America because he was a wanted criminal in Italy. He NEVER stopped talking about it.

67. Ho Boy...
... that reminds me of the music lecturer in college (the elective that should have come with a refund).

He mumbled when he talked. My roommate - who talked me into taking this idiotic course with him "for fun" - and I were constantly asking each other, "Did you get that? What did he just say?"

The whole class pretty much wrote: "YOU MUMBLE" on the mid-term review forms.

First class back, he spoke loudly, clearly, with crisp diction, and with indignant anger: "If you cannot hear me, sit in the front row, and raise your hand if you still have problems."

On and on he went about how he did not mumble.

Rant over, he brought up that day's lecture slides ... and was back to the same old, same old.

My roommate and I burst out laughing, got the giggles, and ended up having to walk out of the lecture hall.

I even have his private email address. And no, I can't give it out. Promised his sister-in-law. We've communicated a couple of times. Doesn't even talk music (even though I'm not a fan anyway, even thought he has worked with McCartney). All he ever wanted to know was how his nephew and nieces were doing. He has a college trust fund for them.

By the way, his nephew and nieces were some of the finest kids I ever worked with. Great kids. And his nephew is a very good musician to boot, even though he swam competitively for our school swim team.

Edited on Mon Jan-14-08 01:11 PM by Ishoutandscream2
The oldest, Jimmy, was a musician and swimmer, and also a pretty damn good linebacker in football. He gave football up because he was a little undersized and wanted to just swim. Very conscientious in the classroom as well. The two girls are twins, and the sweetest, kindest kids you will ever meet. They were also swimmers. I'm telling you, you couldn't meet such wonderful, grounded kids.

I remember showing a picture of Steve Miller with Paul McCartney on his Flaming Pie album. It was taken in Steve's North Dakota home. Jimmy told me about that room, and where the other rooms were in the house. Pretty neat stuff.

Mom is a staunch Democrat. We never discussed Steve's politics. Her husband, Steve's younger brother, still says he plays better guitar than Steve.

On edit - Steve's brother died from cancer. But he always maintained he was a better guitarist than Steve.

I suspect the answer is that she's covered through either the NBC affiliate's group plan, NBC's, or GE's, but I could probably work that in.

56. If a dental practice counts:
1 degree at least 8 times for President Clinton (I have a personally (WJC's name and mine same script, no machine) signed pic of him, Arafat, Mubarak, and Rabin)

1 degree of * and his Daddy 2 times (interesting stories - not to be discussed here or anywhere due to HIPAA)

1 degree for each of the following whihc pop into my head;

Jack Klugman
Joey Bishop
Sinatra Family as a whole
Rock Hudson
Every Dem and rethug legislator in the Delaware Valley
Many others...

Personally I've met:

Every Mayor of Philly since and including Rizzo
Arlen Specter
Sen. Casey (his campaign office was in my bldg., treated many of his staff)
Gov. Casey
Gov. Rendell
Marjorie Mezvinsky (treated her mom)
Teller ( also HIPAA)
CEO's of Mitsubishi, First Pennsylvania Bank (a big deal in its day), and CIGNA (!)

Probably others over 30 years whom I have forgotten...

It's been fun.

87. OK:
Now when you people read this, you have to understand that this is in Health Care Context...non-judgemental and not anti-lifestyle of any type...just "the way it is".

Years ago, we used to use binocular microscopes to examine the various flora which inhabit the pockets around the teeth for periodontal patients. If there were many anaerobic bacteria such as spirochetes, it implied that there was active periodontal infection/lesions 'on the move'.

So anyway, I take a sample from this guy and hand it to my assistant, who puts it under the objective lens, she's looking...looking...looking...and suddenly she jumps back. And starts laughing and runs out of the room.

So the patient says to me, "what's wrong?" Scared-like. so I don't know so I look into the scope and there's nothing particularly interesting and all of a sudden...

Moby Dick himself, swims by and I jumped about a mile. It was a sperm - which makes everything else just pale by comparison.

Now he was really upset watching me...thought he had Cancer or something.

so I went up to him and told him to stay calm. I asked him, "Do you ever go to the Philadelphia Museum of Art?" He said he had...and I continued, "You know that Duchamp construction behind the barn door?" He thought for a minute and said, "Yeah..." I asked him, "Did you ump back the first time you saw it?"
He replied that he had...

So I told him what I saw and we both had a good laugh.

the piece of art is a stall in a barn, you peek thru a crack in the door, where you see that there is a woman's torso with her legs spread wide and all the anatomy you can imagine right in front of you. Everyone who looks the first time jumps back, b/c you're not supposed to see stuff like that and you're being a voyeur.

Just a Day in the Life...

But me personally, I've met...

* Hillary Clinton
* Jimmy Carter
* Al Gore - that one was a chance meeting because I happened to be at the Saturday Night Live taping for the show in May 2006 that he was on
* Tom Vilsack
* Rudolph Giuliani - total prick, as you would expect.
* Madeline Albright
* John McCain
* Ted Kennedy
* Dick Gephardt
* Bob Dole - my friend wanted to go to a book signing of his so I went along.
* Howard Dean
* Colin Powell

I don't "know" any of them or have any kind of connections with them, beyond meeting them.

Yes, I'm a geek. I was on our middle school's equations team, and he was on his, and we played against each other in a meet. He was a jerk, and I kicked his ass. :evilgrin:

I also met her again when I was in high school when I performed in front of the town rotary meeting for our Forensics team. She was speaking, too. She was my state rep growing up and by then our state senator. I got to shake her hand at the state convention a ways back. When I told her I'd grown up with her as my state rep, she blanched and asked how old I was. ;)

I also brushed Robert Pinsky's arm when he was Poet Laureate and speaking at our NCTE (English teachers) convention. I about died.

Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon:
My cousin used to put in fancy car stereos and worked for a fancy car dealer in Southern Cal.

One of the salesmen there bought Tom Cruise's trade in (a black Porsche--I touched it when they weren't looking 'cause it was a wicked awesome car).

Tom Cruise was in "A Few Good Men" movie with Kevin Bacon.
