Man Dies In Calif. Escalator Mishap
Police Say Heavy Drinking May Have Played Role


LOS ANGELES -- Heavy drinking may have lead to a man's death at a shopping mall in Hollywood Saturday night.

Authorities said the man was trying to slide down the banister of an escalator at the Hollywood and Highland Center when he lost his balance and plunged several stories onto another escalator below.

He was declared dead at a hospital from a head injury.

Police quoted his friends as saying the man "had been drinking quite a bit."

That's the one main reason I don't drink very often. I don't particularly like not having control over my judgment.

I drank in my youth and that was poor judgment on my part as well. At least I didn't do anything quite that daring, stupid or extreme.
