Poll: Approval of war in Iraq, Bush remain low
http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2008/01/12/poll-approval-of-war-in-iraq-bush-remain-low/

WASHINGTON (CNN) — Americans' opinion on the Iraq war and of President Bush has remained stable — and fairly negative — over the past few weeks, a new CNN/Opinion Research Corporation poll out Saturday evening suggests.

Only 33 percent of Americans favor the war in Iraq, according to a just released poll. In a similar poll taken in December, that number stood at 31 percent.

The poll also suggests only 32 percent of Americans approve of how Bush is handling his job as president. That number is the same as it was last month.

1. Heard on NPR tonight the Arab world likes him even less than we do -- polling there shows Bush
disliked more than they dislike Olmert. Polling also shows they think the terrorist nation to fear most is the United States, not Iran. The "terra terra terra" speeches about Iran are getting a very cool reception there.

So apparently * is making these speeches for an American audience, not for the locals.

2. the McLaughlin Group today cited a survey of about 5000 people from 5 European nations
France, UK, Spain, Germany and I think Italy... Bush had an 8% approval rating in one, 5% in two more and 3% in the last two.

Though he didn't quote a figure, the survey also said a majority considered the US a major threat to world peace.

3. There is no correlation between WH approval ratings and
WH success in getting whatever it wants. It should be obvious by now that congress and WH have an agenda separate from public needs, desires, and mandate.

Therefore, I take little interest in approval ratings these days.
