McCain: Going on Jon Stewart is a ‘dangerous experience
At an event this morning in Michigan, John McCain joked that going on Jon Stewart’s Daily Show is “dangerous experience”:

I also want to assure you that from my encounters with young Americans in the military and Google and colleges, universities, high schools, even — I even went on MTV Town Hall — interesting experience. Going on Jon Stewart: That’s a dangerous experience. Letterman, Leno — I try to reach out to young people. And every time I’m around a group of young Americans, I am enthusiastic and my faith is restored.

In reality, McCain’s appearances seem more dangerous for Stewart. In April 2007, McCain went on Stewart’s show and told him that he had a present for him — an IED that he could place under his desk.

I suppose if you define the ability to discern humor delivered at the end of a hammer and laugh track as "young" that is reaching out...

4. Of course it's dangerous
Stewart, unlike the so-called real punditry/reporters, will actually call bullshit bullshit when he hears it. He does it in a nice and funny way, but he leaves no doubt in people's minds what he thinks. Everyone else is too busy sucking up to the politicians to do stuff like that.

5. Yep. Stewart's career doesn't depend on access.
These candidates need access to Stewart's audience more than he needs them. So he doesn't kiss their asses.
