How the Chinese cure their internet addicts!
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/17251571/

Few countries have been as effective historically in fighting drug and alcohol addiction as China, which has been lauded for its successes, as well as criticized for harsh techniques.

9. There is a time and place for everything...
What defines an 'addict', of course...

If I keep work, education, and free time organized, then it's not a problem.

2. uh oh... don't give the Bushies* any more ideas...
Of course, if 100,000 of us were all rounded up for our electroshock therapy, we'd have one hell of a lot to talk about... :eyes:

Frightening, isn't it?

4. LOL
wow that's crazy! sounds like how we treat gays in treatment centers here in the US! I think th einternet can become an addiction! I am on it constantly, even at work. It just becomes a force of habit. I definately don't think I should be tortured because of it though!

3. I'm addicted to information
It just happens to be available on the Internet. I think China may have a bit of an ulterior motive here.

What's next, electroshock therapy for book addiction, music addiction?

5. Most likely so. I do not trust the Chinese.
Their government is one of the worse in the world.

8. I agree; it's one of the worst... but if they're so evil, why do American corporations help them?
It's kinda hard to hate people we're helping.

6. Why not?
They rounded up and killed all the opium addicts once. It did fix the addiction problem.

I better add this----> :sarcasm:

with his eyes wide open?

12. My two cents
I heard this recently, I think it was attributed to Thomas Friedman, commenting on the incident where the Chinese were buying scalped tickets to hear Bill Gates talk. He said, " Bill Gates is China's Britney Spears." Don't get me started on how much more advanced they are then us.

13. In all seriousness though
can we confirm this with a non US media source? The US coreporate media has been known to lie extensively about communist governments before and in the present. Not saying it can't be true, they do have lots of human rights abuses...I just am wary of our media. Pretty bad when in a "free" country, I dont feel I can trust the mainstream news!

16. or the
torture palaces we have in Europe. Or the highest number of incarcerated people...racist death penalty...murder in Iraq and Afghanistan ect ect. Yes, what the Chinese are doing is bad if this is true...but step back and look at our nation...we have plenty to fix here that is WORSE than this. Also, gay "cure centers" have been known to use torture as well and the government has done nothing to shut them down.

17. I AGREE!
We can't be throwing stones at other countries about what they 'allegedly" do when we don't admit to what we do. And we don't even know what we do!
