Poll question: 14% of Americans have seen a UFO ~ Have you?
Edited on Tue Jan-15-08 07:19 PM by votesomemore
According to this news story 14% of American polled last year answered they have seen a UFO.
I have not. Have any other DUers?

Please vote and comment.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml?xml=/news/2008/01/15/wufo115.xml

EDIT: UFO refers to any object which is flying and unidentifiable.

2nd EDIT: oh my. We can go ahead and throw "alien spacecraft" in with UFOs for the purpose of this poll.

Alien spacecraft or just the term as it's actually meant: Unidentified Flying Object? I'm sure there are many more people who would vote the latter than the former.

very high. It wasn't moving, I saw it motionless for probably 10+ minutes. I took a picture of it. I still don't know what it was. It could have been a blimp, it was that shape, but to high up to see details.

Still have the picture. Still don't know what it was. Many others were there, and watched it with me.

Edited on Tue Jan-15-08 07:23 PM by JFN1
But I don't know if they were "aliens" or "flying saucers." I've seen some weird things floating through the skies, even took pics of a couple of them. One is a thing that looks like a box - it was floating over my house in Parkrose (Portland) for about half an hour - didn't move, was pretty high up, and could not tell what it was. I took a couple of pics of it, went in to get my telescope a bit later, to see if i could identify it, and when I came out again, it was gone.

Well, you tell me what it is. The first pic is a shot from my front yard of the object - the second is a shot of the object at maximum zoom.

24. Put me down as a maybe
Probably when I was 12 or 13, I looked out my bedroom window and saw some lights up in the night sky. The arrangement of the lights didn't look like an airplane, nor was it moving like a plane. At the same time I saw this, the lights in the house blinked off and on a couple of times, and there was nothing unusual about the weather at the time.

Not the most conclusive evidence by any means, but I don't have any better explanation for the odd sequence of events.

26. Yes in 1978
At 1 am. Oblong, flying just above the treetops and barely moving. I slowed down my car to listen for an engine and heard nothing. Then I decided I must be mistaken and started to drive away. As I drove away I noticed a man who had pulled over, he was leaning on his car's trunk and observing the object. I will never forget the look of terror on his face. I got the hell out of there.

28. In 1979 my nine-year-old twin boys saw a black "triangle"
Edited on Tue Jan-15-08 08:49 PM by screembloodymurder
just 300' above a barn down the street. They said it was huge (2 football fields), shaped like an arrowhead (a triangle with a slight projection in the rear), and made no noise. When it did start moving they said it smoothly accelerated and was out of sight w/i seconds. I had them draw pictures and was quite skeptical because I had never heard of a triangular UFO. I had completely forgotten the incident until recently when I discovered the drawings while cleaning the attic.

The boys had been walking our dog and were gone for over an hour, we searched the neighborhood and found no trace of them. My wife and I were in the house discussing calling the police when they walked in the door. They said they thought they were only gone 10 minutes and only walked to the corner and back.

30 years later, when my first grandchild was staying at our house for the first time, I awoke one night to a strange noise/vibration. I sat up in bed as the sound got louder/closer and seemed to be coming from just outside my window. Suddenly, a very bright light came through the window (I thought it was a police copter) and filled the room. I felt my muscles weakening with the ever louder vibration and I looked into the hall in time to see my dog fall in a heap upon the floor. I collapsed back into bed and though I tried, I could not even keep my eyes open. In the morning I asked my wife if she'd heard the noise (she hadn't) and after hearing my story she laughed and went into the kitchen to make coffee. She returned with the sheets to our bed which had somehow been stripped from beneath the covers while we slept and wound up on the kitchen floor. I might have been sleepwalking (no history of it), but that was the wildest dream I ever had.

get through as the phone must have been ringing off the hook. It wasn't a nebulous light in the sky either. It was a low flying huge object that hardly made a noise. Along its perimeters were lights.

Out of curiosity I just decided to do a search on the net, and found someone who posted about the same incident! Cool!

Occurred : 9/15/1989 22:30 (Entered as : 09/15/89 22:30)
Reported: 9/8/2006 6:30:19 PM 18:30
Posted: 10/30/2006
Location: Peekskill, NY
Shape: Unknown
Duration:1 minute
Massive, low flying, slowly moving craft that emitted no sound.

While travelling a back road through a wooded residential area, I observed a very large object in the sky that appeared to be just above the tree tops. I slowed my car to a near stop. My impression was that it was massive; football field in size. I could almost sense its mass before seeing it.

It moved extemely slow, there was no sound. There were lights, but I can no longer remember if colored or white nor the configuration. The lights were not exremely bright. Its color was dark and shape unknown because of tree cover.

I could not clearly see its details, only a partial outline and impression of tremendous mass. I was perplexed and frightened.

I was following a friends car. When we reached our destination, her first words to me, unprovoked, were "Did you see that?" We were stunned.

I remain stunned to this day.

((NUFORC Note: Witness indicates that the date of the incident is approximate. PD))

It's possible that this person didnt' hear the low noise that I heard because they were in a car. I saw it from my front steps.

Edited on Tue Jan-15-08 10:03 PM by karlrschneider
the company plane by myself...after dropping off some people somewhere for example. Often during a night flight I would shut off all electrics...if the weather was clear. It is a fairly amazing sensation at high altitude with no lights except those on the ground and those in the sky and it's impossible to tell where the line of demarcation is. Even discerning which way is "up" is difficult. I did that one night coming back from Toronto, it was a crystal clear night, I was by myself and I flipped off the master switch (technically an illegal thing since it shut down the outside navigation lights) and immersed myself in what seemed like a bigger than usual universe. And after a few minutes I saw 4 bright lights that -appeared- to be about my altitude (very hard to judge this) that moved VERY fast (relative to my field of vision) toward then past and to my right rear. Have no idea what I was seeing. No LGMs involved though...

38. No, but the famous Rex Heflin photos were in our house for one night.
My Dad worked for the Orange County Road Department, and he was friends with Rex Heflin, who took some photos on a road in an agricultural area of Orange County, California. (At least it was agricultural then, nowadays that whole area is built up.) My dad brought them to our house one night and I remember holding them in my hand. He took them back to work the next day and gave them back to Rex. Those photos have since become famous in the UFO world. Unfortunately I never got to meet Rex and both him and my father have passed away now. But that is the closest I have ever gotten to a UFO sightning.

I saw some strange lights in Arizona outside my parents window when I snuck into their room to sleep with when I was little. 46. No, but...
I've had several people who I respect say they've seen one. All accounts were discussed in a peculiar way, like the people didn't really want to talk about it, and you could tell by the look in their eyes that they were recalling something quite disturbing. Not like they were bragging or making up stories.

And what they briefly described were NOT airplane lights or Venus or swamp gas -- they saw large mechanical "things" hovering and moving silently a few yards to a few hundred yards off the ground. The attitude of these people was more along the fear line than anything else -- maybe like a deer feels when it senses humans around -- better get the F* out of here before something bad happens.

53. Yes. One night when I was sixteen, ...
... I was looking out my bedroom window and saw a large round, glowing orange object moving slowly from right to left, above the tree line at the end of my street. It made a buzzing sound.

When I told my family about it, they pooh-poohed my description and claimed I had seen the moon!

A few years later, I saw a small item in the newspaper about an engineer in Maine who had seen the same object. I kept that clipping in my wallet for years.

60. Maybe.
When I was a teenager, my friend and I had just finished smoking the funny stuff and saw something. So unfortunately, I don't think that counts. We saw a huge round, grey metallic craft with incredible number of multi-colored lights and it flew over our heads without a sound.

61. I haven't but my mother swore she did one night...
She was totally freaked out about it and it was in a populated area. Not out in the desert.
