Sen Dodd facing heat from his own Caucus on FISA
Edited on Wed Jan-16-08 12:09 AM by XOKCowboy
I read this on CrooksandLiars.com Here's the link.

http://www.crooksandliars.com/2008/01/15/dodd-facing-fight-within-his-caucus-on-fisa/

One senior Democratic aide said that while some Democrats could have been irked in the heat of the moment, most understand it is the nature of presidential campaigning for candidates to tackle hot-button issues and to rely heavily on veteran staff for day-to-day work in the Senate.

“I think it’s too early to say” whether there are any hard feelings, the Democratic aide said. “But I think you could term it as a key few months for him” in terms of his reintegration into the Caucus. “It will be interesting to watch when he returns,” the aide said.

For those not fluent in DC passive-aggressive speak, allow me to translate the “anonymous Democratic aide” for you: “okay, we know you needed to do something to stand out from the pack during your campaign, but now you need to get in line, or you’ll find yourself at odds with your caucus.” That’s right…the Senate Democratic leadership doesn’t like it when you step away from their agenda of signing off on every one of Bush’s threatened vetoes and take a stand. Look at the telecom donations and see if you see some familiar names.

Dodd needs our support. I’ve been in contact with his team and they want responses from citizens that they can show his staff as well as others to let them know that we have Dodd’s back to continue this fight. Please contact Sen. Dodd or leave a comment on this thread supporting his leadership.

I emailed Sen. Dodd and expressed my support for his continuing fight against telecom immunity and domestic spying. I think we all should.

I sure hope that this isn't lost in all of the debate threads.

2. The Democrats want to move into that cushy corporate crotch
Edited on Wed Jan-16-08 12:18 AM by Dhalgren
that the Republicans have had for years. This is their chance and they don't want anyone queering it for them. That is why Kucinich is out in Presidential politics, why Edwards will be shortly and why Dodd is being sent to the woodshed. The Democratic party is doing everything it can to get rid itself of its progressive, liberal base. Because there's no real money in that base. I am sick of it. I am done with it.

13. So true.
Pigs at the trough. They want what the Repugs have. The problem is we the people want our share finally and we elect them.

4. Senate Dems seem to have too many former GOP staffers
Edited on Wed Jan-16-08 12:27 AM by OzarkDem
because most of them were running the Senate committees and Dems were too lazy to train new committee staff. Big mistake, right out of the gate.

Some senate Dems also hired staffers who were former GOP staffers thinking they would get more experienced people, also dumb. Grass is always greener, etc, etc. (shorter OzarkDem - new Dem senate staffers ignorant obstructionists)

If Obama and Hillary want to run on their daily record of caving to the GOP and violating our rights, its ok by me.

5. What didn't they learn from the 06 elections?
The message was clear. We want the old guard out, not just a new smiling face on the same old shit.

Even though it's an election year, we've still got plenty of business to take care before Bush leaves. Chris Dodd is still fighting the good fight at least as far as FISA is concerned.

8. When are these f*cking corporations
going to be put in their place? I'm sick of it. We have to go after these corps ourselves somehow...

These damn primaries are a f*cking distraction from what is really important.

9. I'm worried that the elections will distract most people from the important issues this year...
FISA is just one of those issues.

14. "Without Just Cause"
should be our motto. I was so inspired by Dodd fighting this issue, I donated to his campaign knowing full well he didn't have a snowball's chance in hell. I hope he receives a hearty response from DU and continues to stand up for our Constitutional rights.
