NBC (General Electric) helps slam Obama on tonight's 30 ROCK
Edited on Thu Feb-22-07 08:04 PM by Atman
Just saw the clip on Hardball...Chris and Bowtie have guest spots, and apparently one of the characters is a guest on a fake Hardball episode and tells of her support for "Barrack Osama" and that she's voting for "Osama." GE's people couldn't have written it any better themselves. Oh, wait...they probably DID write it.

1. Oh, please.
The character in question is always portrayed as a dumbass. Matthews and Carlson are openly laughing at her after she says it.

2. You miss the point
Edited on Thu Feb-22-07 08:09 PM by Atman
The point is GE's drumming the "OSAMA" meme into the public's head. Keep repeating it...the only thing they left out was referencing his middle name.

Oh, and the other point is...this is NBC and major defense contractor, GE.

5. Gotta go with you on this one. Plus, the old SNL team was VERY TIGHT with Rudy Giuliani
throughout his mayoral terms. Rudy had free reign at the real 30 Rock and probably still does.

6. Yes, I remember the NYC provincial tone of the skits produced by...
those "sophisticates" after Sept 11

17. Lorne Michaels will give Rudy breaks on his show that NO Democrat will get.
And people shouldn't even begin to think that it won't carry over to the public - it always does.

Lorne Michaels is a dick.

23. NO WAY MAN!
The show is just funny! You don't have a sense of humor! You don't get it!

:sarcasm:

Funny how we'll rail on here all day against the corporate/defense contractor media machine feeding us propaganda and bullshit -- until our favorite show comes on, then we insist they'd NEVER do the same thing, cuz, cuz...I like that show!

3. Tweety and Bowtie loved it
giggled all through it; sickening, just sickening

We better get used to this kind of shit, its only the beginning of continually calling Obama Osama, it will never end.

29. One of the women on the view (Joy I think) refered to Obama as Osama too.
I think it was an honest mistake though. Happened yesterday or the day before.

31. I actually thought Tweety and Bow Tie Boy both came off as
lame and dumb on 30 Rock. Don't think that was the intent of their appearance on the show (both of their egos are the size of Texas) but they did what they do every night - let a clueless twit ramble on and on and never call anyone on their nonsense. Anyone who has watched Nerfball or F*cker Carlson caught that it was nothing different than any other nightly appearance by these two lame asses. They, playing themselves, are really as dumb as the actress who was playing a role.

There was a reason that Tweets and F*cker got the gig and not Keith. Even Lawrence Oliver could not act as dumb as those two numbnuts really are every night of the week.

7. 30 Rock is a riot
Get outraged about something that's actually worth increasing your blood pressure for. That show is poking fun at General Electric all the time, just look at Alec Baldwin's character. I'm assuming the character you're talking about is the one played by Jane Krakowski... That character is an idiot anyway so I wouldn't get too twisted up about it.

9. You're STILL missing the point
It is the repeated drilling into America's head any and every link between Obama and Osama. Krakowski, Baldwin...jesus, man, you're missing it completely. The whole point is to get the OBAMA/OSAMA link into the collective conscience. If 30 ROCK was really concerned with current event, they'd be aiming their slings and arrows at those who deserve it. Instead, this seems to me to be a blatant example of planting that negative seed.

22. I guess we came away with different points.
And Krakowski DID call him OSAMA both times.

Look, you people calling me "humor impaired," etc, are idiots. (Hey, if you can insult me, right back atcha, correct?). You're not reading/understanding what I'm saying. It isn't about Jane's or Tina's or Alec's characters. Great, the play progressives. Whoopee, I guess that means anything the show says or does is acceptable.

Can I try to make you understand my point again? Look, I like the show, too. I think it's pretty damned funny. But if anyone should no better, it should be Fey and Baldwin -- they are helping to reinforce and plant the OSAMA-OBAMA connection in the collective conscience, whether they mean to or not. I got the fucking joke, I'm not a moron. I am saying I think anything which keeps advancing the OSAMA-OBAMA confusion is no better that what Fox is doing.

Satire-meter my ass. It just doesn't help in the bigger picture. It isn't about whether I have a sense of humor. Sheesh.

:eyes:

27. Diffusing the Obama/Osama soundalike is more useful than ignoring it.
You think the cons are going to ignore it? Better to bring it out, make fun of it and move on.

I don't like giving these assholes any ammunition at all, that's all. We always tend to shoot ourselves in the foot and hand the republics their material on silver platters...which they then bash us over the head with.

15. You're way off base...
Alec Baldwin and Tina Fey are two of the biggest progressives out there. This program skewers the right wing at every chance they get. Tina Fey's character at one point says "I love America. Just because I think gay dudes should be able to adopt and we should all drive hybrid cars, doesn't mean I don't love America" (paraphrased), and then gives a little wink into the camera.

And Jane Krakowski's character, while being interviewed by Tweety and Tucker, doesn't say "Barack Osama". She says "Barack Obama", but then says she's voting for Osama.

You may need to recalibrate your satire dial.

Sid

32. You can't judge a whole show by a clip! It was hysterical! Tina Fey, as she has in
in the past, talked about the Iraq War was wrong and based on lies,

The whole Obama/Osama storyline happened when the character Jenna, posing for a sexy spread in a men's magazine, was asked by the interviewer how she felt about the troops. Jenna thought it was about theatrical troupes, and said over a lot of noise that she hated theatrical troupes. Then started to talk about the gay guy's all dressed up and prancing around the stage.
(Jenna isn't PC either) ...This was then taken out of context that she hated the troops.
To rehabiliate her, Jack (Alec Baldwin) got her a spot on Hardball.
When preparing her, Tina Fey told her she should say that the Iraq War was wrong and the real job for the troops was to go after Osama.
Then Tina Fey told Jenna, that if they mention whom she will support in 2008, she would support Obama.

But Jenna, being ditzy often screws up and it was not at all a slam on Obama.

Do you really think that Alex Baldwin and Tina Fey to would be on a show if they couldn't let truth out? I just find it amazing that GE allows them to do it.

BTW...This past November, Tina Fey lit the Rockefeller XMas Tree and flashed the peace sign for all of the country to see.

33. You forgot to mention that in the scene before that they praised Obama saying ...
that he was cool and fresh. And that those pictures of him on the beach were hot!

As an Obama supporter that saw the episode, I had no problem with it at all.
