3. I think it's GREAT!
I had intended to just "click by" the DU and see if anything interesting abounds. Turns out I was right, as this link was listed first under Latest Discussion Threads.

Brilliant, as usual Annie.

9. Way'at funk! A little off topic...
I haerd that B'moor was doing a charter school -- with Edison. Um, how's that working out for you? I have not exactly heard many raves about them, at least not from progressives.

8. What are the front-burner issues in Covington today?
Edited on Thu Feb-22-07 08:47 PM by KamaAina
i.e. what people are talking about at that cool-looking coffee shop.

Based on the situation region-wide, I'm gonna take a wild guess that rapid growth is among them. What will you do to manage it? Specific proposals definitely help beef up a platform, especially that of an insurgent, outsider candidate like yourself, plus they get people talking about you ("Did you hear? Annie Spell wants to revitalize housing in our historic district instead of building more large apartment complexes!") At this point, publicity, name recognition, etc. are all good.

Oh yes, excellent job reminding voters that they may select two candidates. A lot of people who may be backing someone else (are there any incumbents running?) might see that and remember they can vote for you as well.

edit: many candidates for President, Senate, etc. (maybe someday??) put their specific proposals on a separate page titled "Issues".

11. balancing growth with small-town charm
My opponents are all past members of the City Council (two are incumbents - one is moving from district to at-large candidacy and the other two are past long time members who took a few years off). Three are white, male Republicans and the fourth is African American, male Independent.

Post-Katrina traffic and the need for affordable housing is important. We are located across the lake from New Orleans. We also need to address our zoning and revenue sharing relationship with the Parish (County) government.

13. Just one critique...
Edited on Thu Feb-22-07 09:32 PM by IndyOp
The "Why Annie?" page - the one with one image - maroon with white text - is, for me, very difficult to read. In fact, I can't read most of it. I can read the dark text on white pages - especially because I can adjust my browser to make the print larger. I can't adjust the size of the graphic.

Gorgeous pictures, well-written text that tells me what I want to know about a candidate - overall really good.

Thank You for doing Democracy!

:patriot:

On edit: Clarifying which page is the one with maroon with white text.

15. I agree. That page really needs to be text instead of a .gif.
Nicely elegant and high end design otherwise, though. :) Looks like the guy who did it is a talented print designer.

23. "balancing growth with small-town charm"
It's the same all over, isn't it? Here in Sacramento we are trying to keep a fine neighborhood from being overrun by a huge hospital corporation. It is hard work to get the grassroots involved - it takes years of tireless organizing and table-pounding and meetings, meetings, meetings...

Good Luck, Annie! go get 'em!

25. very nice - but
there's always a "but", right?

I agree with others re the "why" page - that page has a lot of text. you need to sit up straight and read it like reading a book. That's not generally how people do webreading. Make the answers to "why" be short phrases in larger text and use the "more..." technique for those whose attention is grabbed enough to want the details. One option would be to have a page without the graphic and wide border that gets launched as a standalone. It will then have plenty of "real estate" for all the text in larger fonts... it would also be "printer ready" the graphic could be at the top like a letterhead, still allowing a full page width...

and the "platform" page - I assume this is a placeholder, and there is more to come?

26. We'll work on that, thanks!
The election is on March 31st.
I think Michael Goff and Leonard Joseph did an excellent job getting the website up and looking snappy in short order!
I've relayed the kudos.
After they have had some time to bask in their wonderful-ness, I'll ask them to address your concerns. Both have generously donated their time and talents. I don't want to upset the artists.
:)

Thanks
