NH recount started three minutes ago....
Dennis Kucinich came up with the money for a Democratic hand recount and the recount begins today. The Republican candidate did not come up with the money in time, but Sec. of State Bill Gardner will allow him to pay the money while Kucinich's recount is going on.

this could get very interesting.

3. We know there will be discrepancies
One report said a family of 31 all voted for Paul in one town, yet that town recorded no votes for Paul. Now, either all 31 people are lying (and why would they?) or for some bizarre reason nobody wanted Paul to get anywhere. Uh huh.

I expect quite a few surprises.

Waiting 2 weeks...ugh. But probably, if there's any discrepancy, it will be leaked. We shall see how this goes.

I'm starting to believe that people on the Internet
will believe *ANY DAMNED SHIT* that someone posts.

And if it's true, someone has surely called the ACLU
or the NHCLU or even Bill Gardner, the New Hampshire
Secretary of State and raised holy Hell, right???

Oh, I see. Bev Harris and the BBV crowd says it.

Per Google News:

http://www.opednews.com/articles/genera_bev_harr_080116_can_nh_recount_chain.htm

But even so, their claim only extends as far
as videotaping; no claim is asserted that
they couldn't watch the process themselves.
And they don't seem to have solicited advice
from any of the folks and organizations I
previously mentioned.

8. that has to do with the Republican recount. Seems there's some undermining
that tied up the funds. According to the list servs, if they can resolve the fund tie up while the Dem recount is going on, She will allow the republican to proceed.

11. Actually, NH Secretary of State Bill Gardner has said...
> ...if they can resolve the fund tie up while the Dem
> recount is going on, She will allow the republican to
> proceed.

Actually, NH Secretary of State Bill Gardner has said
that if the Republicans come up with the money while
the Democratic recount is going on, he will decide
*AT THAT POINT* what to do. The Republicans missed
the deadline to pay up so at this point, there's no
guarantee nor legal obligation that they'll get a
recount.

30. How can you do one republican recount, and one democratic recount?
Isn't a recount a recount of VOTES, not parties? There's something really stupid going on here.

31. Remember: This sort of primary election is held on behalf of a political party.
> How can you do one republican recount, and one democratic recount?
> Isn't a recount a recount of VOTES, not parties?

Remember: This sort of primary election is held on
behalf of a political party. Last Tuesday, New Hampshire
actually held two entirely separate primary elections:
one for the Democrats and one for the Republicans.

People participating in the Democratic Primary were
handed a blue ballot with just the names of the Democratic
contestants on it. People participating in the Republican
Primary were handed a pink ballot with just the names
of the Republican contestants on it.

12. $20,000 will apparently cover all of Hillsborough County...
$20,000 will apparently cover all of Hillsborough County.
This is New Hampshire's most populous county by far and
includes the cities of Manchester and Nashua as well as
many towns, so it's a nice cross-section of the alleged
difference between the votes in the cities and the towns
and the machines doing the count and the town clerks doing
the count.

My guess is that Dennis will quit once Manchester's
tally checks out, but I wish he'd stay in until they
count Nashua, my "homeland"; it would be a nice
proof point of what I've been claiming here: that
in Nashua, our vote is secure.

20. I would guess the Republicans who own the machines
and the proprietary software. Even Hillary was surprised by her win. These machines are all, as far as I know, owned by republicans, some of the companies employ ex-cons to work on the machines.

As long as there is software that is only understood and operated by private owners of these machines (as I said most, if not all, republicans), I think there are a lot of people who will not be able to trust their vote. It's all about how the machine counts the vote. It's even more worrisome in places with no paper trail, but they all appear to be easily hackable.

27. I think that line of thought has been discussed QUITE often here!
Edited on Wed Jan-16-08 01:37 PM by calipendence
It's pretty obvious that they feel that:
a) they have a the best chance of not only beating her, but turning out more voters to do so and also affecting other races as well.
b) even if she does win, she will do more to follow the corporatist's agenda than the other Dem candidates.

It's pretty clear which Dem candidate the Republicans want to win!

Though I'm critical of Clinton, I'm also with others here in feeling that is more apt to be the Republicans doing any sort of messing with the machines that Clinton's people. I really think that they wouldn't go to that level and take those sort of risks.

40. Well it could be a couple of things.
IMO Hillary would be the easiest candidate to beat - that's JUST my opinion, and I'm not saying it to be anti-Hillary, or to argue. I just feel that she'd be the best GOTV candidate for the repugs, and they would like nothing more than for her to be the candidate. Many, many people disagree with me on that one, and perhaps they're right.

On the other hand, it could have nothing to do with that at all, and just be a practice run for the machines that are going to be deciding our elections in November.

I don't know what lurks in the minds of the republicans, but whatever it is, I know it's not good.

Here in New Hampshire, we all vote on paper

Edited on Wed Jan-16-08 01:26 PM by Tesha

"The big thing, I think, is to determine if the paper ballot count,
the hand count, matches the machine totals," said Emmanuel
Krasner, an{d} observer for the Kucinich campaign.

Mannie Krasner is a good guy and a smart, strongly
progressive Democratic lawyer. He won't take any
shit or allow any monkey business to take place
without all of us knowing about it.
