OMG! It's SNOWING in the ATLANTA Metro! And I need groceries! Panic!?!
And it's starting to get dark!

Question to my fellow Southerners, Should I stay home or risk someone crashing into me by going shopping?

Btw, I'm not worried about my ability to drive in this (I grew up in Northern Indiana near South Bend), just the possibility that as the sun sets, it's going to get icy and most people here don't know how to drive in this weather.:scared:

1. How much snow?
I'd be very careful of other drivers. Southerners often freak out when it snows...like me for instance.
Go somewhere close to home and hope they have something left to buy.

Good luck! :hi:

2. It looks like close to 1/2 an inch so far, but it's coming down at a pretty good rate...
...and it's expected to continue into the night.

It's not sticking to the roads yet, just getting them good and wet so that they can freeze tonight.

11. If you're gonna go, go now.
Once it starts to stick and freeze - don't do it.

3. you're sol if you need bread or milk.
It'll likely be gone by now. :eyes: How far do you have to go? You're right that your biggest risk is the folks out there who don't know what they're doing.

18. Too far, thanks to Wal-Mart building another "Super Store" near my old Kroger
I think I'll just wait till morning, I still have a little milk left. I bet you're right, the shelves are probably empty by now.

It's snowed here for a billion years, and still people go mental at the first sign of the flakes.

By "the flakes" I don't mean snow. I mean the weather idiots who go hyper every time snow is about to fall, and the people who still listen to them. People line up at the grocery stores with twelve gallons of milk and seven boxes of cereal and a hundred gallons of water. Fuckin' A, it's like no one has ever seen snow before. It falls, you shovel it away, and you go on with your life. Especially in Atlanta...DO NOTHING! It will melt my lunchtime tomorrow.

14. I had to laugh at the news coverage Monday.
The News guys were out there reporting on the snow fall like they were the weather channel hurricane guys. Funny! Like Connecticut hasn't seen snow before:crazy:

9. We moved from Arizona to North Texas the year before the big ice storm
in 1978. My mom had never driven on ice and I will never forget her pulling out on the highway and spinning round and round.
She literally froze...leaving us stranded (luckily it was a rural area).
My brother made her get out of the seat and rescued us (he had never driven on ice either, but he watched Dukes of Hazzard :eyes: ).
I make it a point to be very wary of drivers like my mom.:P

12. I'd say stay home and cower in the corner. Come out only long
enough to bitch about how southerners can't drive on the ice properly.

15. It's not cold enough and there is not enough snow to cause a problem.
If you're worried, let 5-10 pounds of pressure out of your tires.

16. I just got home from work in ATLANTA
It's about 7pm. The freeways are JAMMED. - North of I 20 was pretty rough, even on side streets - I'm just south of the Airport and it's mostly a rain/snow/sleet mix. The side streets are still passable - but be prepared to stand in line at Krogers for a good 3 hours cuz everyone has the same idear. :)
