This guy stood in front of the CO governor, the Denver Mayor and our current US Senators at a dinner honoring the president of CU and made an overtly racist joke. He is now "flabbergasted" by the the blowback.

"To me, it was funny, but it was obviously offensive to people," Farr said.
>
Even though he didn't say the implied comment, he said, "Black House -- is that bad?"

If Sen. Obama's run exposes this nastiness, I say good thing. People who are comfortable making these types of "jokes" must have the spotlight turned on their corrupted souls.

I hope that every closet racist comes bursting out of their closet and publicly implodes. It's gratifying to see the unequivocally negative reaction to this guy, and I personally consider this a "lancing the boil" moment. You've got bring this kind of hateful attitude to the surface, not let it fester and grow under the radar.

It sucks sharing a country and a planet with people like this, who are our true "opponents" in the political arena, not each other.

That is all.

1. But isn't this the very guy who Obama wants to "unite" with?
To join hands and work for a positive change in America? Just like Ronald Reagan did? Isn't this the guy that Obama says we should not be at odds with?

3. That really wasn't the point of my post. In fact, his campaign staff here haven't yet commented.

I actually believe if he lets idiots like this open their craw and spew this kind of crap without offering much comment, that will be pretty effective.

on edit, I also think he was making an academic rather than rhetorical comment in what he said about Reagan, and I'm not too upset by it, so what do I know?

6. I think that this is an area, in particular, where you cannot "sit down"
with these cretins. Racism and bigotry cannot be "negotiated" nor "triangulated". I don't think he will, but I wish Obama would come out with an elegant speech that took this knuckle dragger to the woodshed and shamed him into apologetic silence. :grr:

8. Agree with you 100% when it's this ingrained. it's hopeless.
I share your hope about Senator Obama addressing this with elegance, and maybe just a touch of pity for their helplessly backward views. If he can throw in some Oscar Wilde type subtle mockery, that would be icing on the cake. :-) MKJ

4. This primary race is exposing the simmering racism and sexism in the nation.
It needs exposed so that we can finally have a chance at teaching them that bigotry hurts us all.

5. Yes, indeed. As painful as it is to watch, when you see Matthews have to apologize and this idiot
ducking for cover, the exposure is a positive thing.

When he made his "joke" it was reported there were audible gasps in the audience, heh heh. MKJ
