3. There might be a calling.
I am from Illinois. I think your senator would be perfect. He is new to the senate, so Obama doesn't sacrifice his message of change. And he is experienced, so it takes away the 'unexperienced' talking point.

16. How is he experienced? 1 year in the Senate and 10 months
as Secretary of the Navy. What don't I know about his career that makes him experienced?

20. No more or less so than Obama?
but agreed, I think he's better off staying in the Senate for now.

22. I wonder that too. Just because a guy is famous and has been known
for a long time doesn't mean he's somehow more endowed with the kind of experience Obama would need on a ticket, besides the military stuff. Obama might want to consider someone who knows about foreign policy and economics--Dodd maybe? Or Biden.

11. A bazillion times over I agree with you.
Webb is doing just fine where he's at. The last thing we need to do with him is banish him to obscurity as the Veep.

2. It would be a wonderful match
but I don't think we can afford to give up this Senate seat, even for a VP slot.

4. I saw this combination in somebody's sig line
(sorry, can't remember whose  ) and kind of liked the idea. I'm an Edwards supporter, but I think Obama could do a fine job as well, and Jim Webb...well, I voted for him (absentee) BEFORE the whole Allen-Macaca deal, so...yeah. :loveya: I'd say we could definitely do worse! :hi:

5. I like Webb a lot. And when Biden was running, I thought he might make a good
VP for him, too.

Good point about giving up the senate seat, though..

8. Nope, Obama probably won't pick a senator also just elected as his running mate
he will need to get somebody with more experience to balance things. Yes, people want change but he's also got to bring into his camp those who want more experience.

9. Speaking of Webb, he definitely should have asked for a recount.
That'd've been patriotism squared.

10. If Webb left office, would the (D) governor appoint a replacement?
Or would it go to a special election?

14. Am I the only one who knows that Webb is on wife number three (much younger, too)? Voters
are rejecting Rudy for that kind of thing, why invite that trouble onto a ticket?

15. And he also wrote some iffy stuff in a novel that almost cost him his Senate race.

18. That came out in his Senate race..
and from what my understanding was, most Vietnam Vets would concur that his depiction was historically accurate.

17. My problem with Rudy is not that he's been married three times..
it's that he was conducting an affair while in office and using taxpayer money to have trysts with his "lady". I think Webb has acted pretty honorably as far as I know with each of his wives.

21. But do you think the GOPers are going to give him a pass? Do we need
to give them a reason to beat us with the "family values" cudgel? Especially since Obama has such a picture-perfect family life, why taint that picture, even if neither you nor I think it's a big deal? Besides, I'm not sure Webb would be suitable as a number-two guy, in temperament.

I'm not promoting him on a ticket with Obama either. I think it's a bad fit.
