Overheard tonight at FondueFest 08: "Ides, have you ever done work for XYZ Corp?" A Carlyle Co.

So, a relative newcomer to our Merry Braintrust Band is being wooed by a certain XYZ Corp, and the newcomer asked me (over fondue and drinks for a certain "founding member's" belated birthday celebration) if I am familiar with the company in question.

"They're owned by The Carlyle Group, you know," I slurred.

"Oh!"

And that was that.

Except, it piqued my curiosity, and I held that thought for when I got home. And sure enough, The Carlyle Group entrusts its various employee pension plans to - guess which BFEE Bank, boys and girls? - yup, http://www.freeerisa.com/5500/InstantView.asp?mainID=16755661&Show=DOL_55">State Street Bank & Trust, the principal subsidiary of State Street Corporation.

More data about the various Carlyle offshoots' pension entanglements with State Street is avaiable with a free subscription to FreeERISA.com.

1. January 19
On the birthday of Edgar Allan Poe, a group of Merry Men met over fondue, and pledged: "Nevermore!" to keeping silent about the DLC candidate.

An http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/January_19">auspicious day indeed.
