Today finished off ..........
..... R9u1d1y, Near Dead Fred, and Gomer Huckabee on the Republic side, and Edwards on our side.

None of them may drop out officially, but this was it for them.

I know the Edwards supporters will swarm all over me for this, but its how I see it. I went through the same shit myself in the 04 cycle when my guy was far too early relegated to the sidelines.

1. Edwards ran a good and noble race.
Further campaigning would seem delusional at this point.

43. Project much?
I didn't say he should drop out. I said the results of today's voting were such that he's in bad shape relative to Obama and Clinton.

Clinton 51%
Obama 45%
Edwards 4%

He can carry on his campagn as long as he likes. I hated it when the last bunch dropped out (Dodd, Biden, Richardson, et al) as their voices helped shape the debate.

Simply saying how things are does not equate to "calling for him drop out".

You can have your opinion, but not your own facts. I never said he should drop out.

9. I think he will
The only one who bagged it today was Huncan Dunter.

I think the rest of the list is in it for a while yet. My point in my OP is not that they'll drop out (nor should they), but that the results today pretty much sealed their long term fates.

14. He said he will reassess his run after SC. I know a lot of people are going
to be very disappointed.

Maybe, if he plays his cards right, he can have some influence on the eventual candidate and maybe a position within the administration where he can do some good for the people. His agenda is important and should be considered by the next president.

I want Edwards to be Attorney General or in some cabinet position where he can help.

23. The machine in Washington had nothing to do with how the
people voted. It's who he was running against. A well known and admired former first lady with impeccable credentials and a charismatic black man.

Edited on Sat Jan-19-08 10:29 PM by Binka
People who do not follow politics closely buy what the media offers up. The machine shut John Edwards down. As far as Hillary's impeccable credentials don't make me barf. I don't dispute the results but please do not shit on us that have seen how the machine works, it works and always has. You sound like a naive teenager. Why is your profile disabled by the way? I mean not as in having no information but just gone? That is weird for a proud Democrat to do that. Hmmmmmm. Welcome to ignore, I have no time for this bullshit.

5. Delegates, man
Don't forget that our concerns are wrapped up in the delegates Edwards holds and may continue to gain. That may be a thin reed, but, if you are fighting for issues and concerns important to you, which the others just aren't representing yet, you need to keep pressing your case. The most effective way to get those concerns recognized in this campaign, if you feel they aren't being addressed by the 'frontrunners' is to continue to press voters to give Edwards delegates to influence the ultimate nominee toward or at the end.

6. As the only non-corporatist on the Democratic side he can't drop out.
Even if he can't win, and I agree it doesn't look good, he needs to keep steering this campaign as hard to the left as he can.

Obama and Clinton sure the hell won't.

Edwards needs to stay in until Feb 5 and then if he hasn't done better, make his decision. I really would prefer more than 4-5 states deciding who I can vote for.

8. It Narrows Right Down Almost Immediately
I agree. I had to face the fact, right at the beginning, that my candidate, Sen. Chris Dodd, was floundering badly and had only picked up I think one delegate from Iowa. It was the worst, immediately, and completely incomprehensible to me, as I was so impressed with Dodd. This is how it goes, though. They start narrowing down drastically almost instantly. I now realize, (after Obama's bizarre pro-Reagan, pro-Republican comments) that there is no stark difference between them, Obama and Hillary Clinton, and so I count on the good Democrats in Congress to keep the new President, (who will be a Democrat), in line.

I'll donate today's date, as money, to his campaign when he takes the lead. He doesn't even need to hold it. Just one day in the lead and you let me know and I'll donate $119.08 to his campaign.

In return, if he never takes the lead, you have to start a thread saying I was right and you were wrong.

How's that?

I now pronounce Obama finished too. Not a wish, an observation. Based on my experience in 2004. While it's not impossible he'll get one/more southern states, he'll be crushed in Super Tuesday.

McCain is old and will not win. Whoever our nominee is, will beat any repub. We are coming out to vote in record numbers and they know they have lost this next election. I just hope whoever the next dem president is, they don't screw it up and loose the WH for the next 8 years, but a dem WILL be in the WH in 2009.

42. Edwards
It isn't just that Edwards is losing, it's that his vote count is so poor. I don't think his total lack of votes can be blamed on the media because he has campaigned fiercely in the states that have held primaries. I think he's too bitter. He could say the exact things he's saying in a different way. He makes it sound as if he would be a polarizing figure in the White House and God knows no one wants another four years of that.
If he could say what he says without the waves of anger and bitterness people might be more inclined to vote for him. It looks like a personality issue to me.

Sorry.

After looking at today's Nevada votes, I'm thinking Romney will take Idaho, Utah and get lots of votes in Arizona. Those states are heavily Mormon. There is a big population of Mormons in the West Coast States.
