Here's something to consider
Just going to put this up on here, not saying any one candidate is more likely to have this happen but I want to get this out.

What do you think would happen to the Democratic Party, in spite of EVERYTHING the GOP has done in the past soon eight years, how horribly bad their slate of candidates is, with such a favorable playing field LOSES?

What do you think would happen in the American political landscape if the Democratic Party gets beaten this November?

I would ask the same thing about the GOP but the last time the GOP hit a low point like this they buckled down, rode it out, and came back meaner and nastier than before. This could happen with the Dems, but at the same time we are nowhere NEAR as hierarchical or authoritarian as the Republicans are. Considering all of the above, what do you think would happen?

1. it's a very real possibility
what will happen is: America is finished. Actually, America may already be finished.

5. I would hope
that a real push is made in how the primaries are run - why certain states are so favored over the rest of us to pick the winners. And the Fairness Doctrine might get some new wind.

3. Same shit, different years.
That's pretty much going to be the case anyhow. Kucinich can't get INTO the debates anywhere to voice his platform. Edwards is largely being ignored even though he has some really strong good points close to the left.

Instead, we have Hillary, who voted for Iraq and everything else Bush wanted and Obama, who, let's face it, would be nothing more than a footnote if Oprah hadn't endorsed him.

4. One could very easily interpret the actions of the DLC
as a thinly disguised campaign to destroy the Democratic Party from within. The part they played in the last 2 Presidential elections would seem to confirm this theory. The fact that they are hell bent on forcing the nomination of the weakest possible candidate since Michael Dukakis, even more so.

The Democratic party SHOULD win the White House, the Senate and the House of Representatives in an unprecedented landslide this year, given the events of the last 8 years. But thanks to the DLC sellouts we'll be lucky if we hold the slim majorities we have now. And if Hillary is the nominee, even that's unlikely.

But as I said, that's probably exactly what the DLC wants. And if we lose this one, make no mistake about it. The Democratic party is dead. And America soon following :evilfrown:

6. Every Time the Democrats Lose, They Move Further to the Right

I would ask the same thing about the GOP but the last time the GOP hit a low point like this they buckled down, rode it out, and came back meaner and nastier than before.

Last time the GOP REALLY hit a low point was 1974 with Watergate. They responded by buying up the broadcasting networks, which enabled them to install Reagan.
They also forged an alliance with the Religious Wrong that has served them very well.

1992 was a speed-bump by comparison. They were able to mobilize their Mighty Slime Machine to cripple Clinton's Presidency almost from the outset.

This could happen with the Dems, but at the same time we are nowhere NEAR as hierarchical or authoritarian as the Republicans are.

More to the point, we don't have the access to the public that they do. Out of power, out of sight, out of mind, except as the butt of jokes by wingnuts on TV.
