Peggy Noonan says that Republican Party has lost its soul...
That's assuming it had a soul to begin with. She was on with a pundit panel with Russert this morning. It was mostly a tear down the Clintons, build up Obama and MCCain show.

One lady, from NPR, said a lot of people supported Huckabee in SC because they felt he was addressing issues that would let them re-gain their soul, more or less. I have thought that was the major appeal of Huckabee. He almost seems human sometimes.

And after invading another country that did nothing to us, or was not a threat to us, and then holding their leader until we could find a group willing to hang him, then after what happened with Abu Graib and the torture tapes, etc, it is easy to see why they would be looking for their "soul".

6. the GOP sold itself to the corporations around 1876
and I wouldn't say that they've had much of a conscience since then (T.Roosevelt's Administration the exception). Democrats, on the other hand, started out with ideals during the Jefferson era, sold themselves out to slavery before the Civil War, redeemed itself with honest Grover Cleveland, FDR, and then purged itself of the curse of racism with LBJ.

8. Bingo. Nice historical analysis.
Don't forget, however, that the GOP took the "extra step" of filling the racism void the Dems left behind through their cynical "Southern strategy" in 1968. Still going strong today, and worth noting.

11. Peggy Noonan's never seemed... quite... right.
When she does panel it looks like she's talking to an imaginary friend.
She and Gilbert Gottfried could be alone in a room having a conversation and never actually see each other.

12. Huck gives a good sermon
That's his strong suit. He is a good talker. But, aside from his populist message- turned up or down depending on whether he is talking to Jon Stewart on the Daily show or a crowd of the folks in SC- he is not mainstream GOP. They think he is too much big government and unbridled spending and too liberal on some issues.
