O'REILLY JOBS OPRAH

by Steve Young

Last year Oprah Winfrey was horrified to discover that an author she promoted on her show had lied. She promptly brought him back and berated him for misleading her...in a book. A lousy book. Now lets see how she deals with a bigger lie.

The Bill O'Reilly Image Rehabilitation Tour stopped by Oprah this week, and the most trusted woman in America got played again. The same woman who was molested as a child by a family member got betrayed anew, but by an even more manipulative predator. But this time much of the fault lies at Oprah's doorstep.

Bill appeared on Oprah this past week to discuss sexual predators, their tactics and how children can be protected. One way might be not to have a sexual predator from getting the Oprah stamp of approval.

It seems that either Oprah has the same crack research team as BillO or she simply took O'Reilly at his word, which anyone with half a brain knows is playing with fire.

In his personal history rewrite, BillO has taken his original castigation of Missouri kidnap victim, Shawn Hornbeck (taken hostage by a sexual predator at the age of 11) and has transformed it into an analysis of Child Sexual Abuse Accommodation Syndrome.

If Oprah's team had done their homework and checked the original tape or transcript they would have found that when Bill said "there was an element here that this kid liked about his circumstances" or that "I think when it all comes down, what's going to happen is, there was an element here that this kid liked about this circumstances," and "the situation here for this kid looks to me to be a lot more fun than what he had under his old parents," Bill NEVER mentioned Child Sexual Abuse Accomodation Syndrome. For days after he realized he had stepped into a pile of his own crap and attempted to massage what he said and/or meant, he NEVER mentioned Child Sexual Abuse Accomodation Syndrome. When Bill chastised anyone (including many of his callers) who called him on his repugnant comments, he ripped into them as being dupes of the "far-left swamp pit gutter snipes," "vile," despicable," and worse - "secular progressives" - "who took his comments out of context," but he NEVER mentioned Child Sexual Abuse Accomodation.

4. Oprah's boards may be taking her and her staff to task but has
Oprah issued a statement about this mess? Until she comes out and disavows Bill O'Lielly and his BS she is as complicit as he is. She HAD to have known - she doesn't live is a vacuum - about O'Lielly's past behaviors of harassing his staff or his terrible statements about a CHILD who was molested for four damn years.

Oprah, missing in action. Oprah, yoo hoo, where are you?

6. It seems Oprah is getting an earful! I imagine she'll issue some sort of
statement eventually. Or not.

10. Bill O just called them all a bunch of left wing loonies on his web site.
Maybe that'll teach you not to have that idjit on your show Oprah.

5. As do I. The man's a genius.
Years ago, a GF gave me a copy of "He Won't Get Far On Foot",
and my first reaction was "Oh my god, how can he get away with
publishing this stuff?"

Then I learned more about him, and why no one could criticize
his viewpoint. And I looked it again, and appreciated the toons
even more.

7. Oprah knows what's up with Bill'O
There's no excuse for having someone like him on her show. "Fair and Balanced" does not mean that evil gets a fair shot.

9. Bill O: "I don't owe Hornbeck an apology - our reporting on case has been dead-on accurate"
THEN he calls the posters "left-wing loonies"

Right off of Bill O's site:

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,254019,00.html

"Bill, loved you on Oprah, but you got hammered on some chat boards. They say you owe Shawn Hornbeck an apology for insinuating he wanted to stay with his abductor. What say you?"

Well, Heather, I say the far left loons who took my analysis out of context are despicable. These people haven't done a single thing to protect kids from danger in this country. Our reporting on the Hornbeck case has been dead-on accurate.

13. Great smackdown!
Can anyone who saw the show tell me why she had BillO on? I don't get it. Is BillO now some sort of expert on child abductions or Child Sexual Abuse Accomodation Syndrome? Did she have him on specifically because of the controversy surrounding his comments, but then gloss over them?

Edited to add link to her feedback page. Couldn't hurt to have lots of us send it to her. ;-)

What I just sent (thank you!!):

Bill O'Reilly:

http://mediamatters.org/static/video/oreilly-20070116-kidnap.wmv

His own words:

O'Reilly, whose comments came during the January 15 edition of Fox News' The O'Reilly Factor, also suggested that he "do buy" "the Stockholm syndrome thing." O'Reilly added: "The situation here for this kid looks to me to be a lot more fun than what he had under his old parents. He didn't have to go to school. He could run around and do whatever he wanted." When fellow Fox News host Greta Van Susteren pointed out that "some kids like school," O'Reilly replied: "Well, I don't believe this kid did. And I think when it all comes down, what's going to happen is, there was an element here that this kid liked about his circumstances."

21. Is it 'sweeps' week? Oprah is no dummy and
her researchers don't live in a vacuum - they knew that having a contraversial asshole like O'Reilly would ensure plenty of 'eyeballs' glued to the screen.
I don't watch - but have managed to hear all the hoopla, and you know what they say - there's no such thing as 'bad' publicity.
