In fairness to him, I think the reporter should have added that before he said "Who let the dogs out?" he had said "Who's got your camera?" It sounded to me like the first question triggered the second, somewhere in the recesses of his coolness-impaired brain.

This didn't seem nearly as bad as Allen's "Macaca" moment when he let his out-and-out racism show. This just seems like a middle-aged Mormon dork thinking that "Who let the dogs out?" is a current song.

At first I thought, well, I can certainly imagine teasing my kids about their "bling" (all of us are white), but whereas it would be kind of a jokey use of the word for us--and for Mitt asking it of a Mormon child--it's condescending, or worse, for him to suppose that by asking it of a black child he's talking like one of them. If, indeed, that's what he was thinking. :shrug: If it wasn't, it seems to demonstrate a certain lack of social sensitivity.

So, IMHO you're absolutely right about the "bling." I still think that the "who let the dogs out" thing was just a Moment of Stupidity. As a politician he wouldn't intentionally talk like that about anybody. It was just kind of graceless for him to talk like that to them.
