Hey DU: Should the Nevada Democratic Party let FOX NEWS host it's Prez Primary debate?
I just got this in an email from MoveOn.org:

SNIP: FOX News, the Nevada Democratic Party and the Western Majority Project
have jointly announced that they will host a 2008 presidential debate,
which is expected to attract the top Democratic contenders for President.
The debate will be presented live on FOX News Channel (FNC) and FOX News Radio
on August 14, 2007 in Reno.

In making the announcement, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) said,
"This is more great news for Nevada. I'm happy FOX News will be a partner
for the August presidential debate. Western issues will be a major focus
of this debate in particular. With FOX News as our partner, candidates will
have an opportunity to not only speak to Nevada voters, but voters across
the West who will be instrumental to electing a Democratic president in 2008."

MoveOn has started a petition opposing this horribly bad idea:
Dear MoveOn member,

The Democratic Party of Nevada just announced plans to let Fox News host
a presidential primary debate. But Fox isn't a legitimate news channel.
It's a right-wing mouthpiece like Rush Limbaugh and the Drudge Report—
repeating false Republican talking points to smear Democrats.

Can you sign this petition asking the Democratic Party of Nevada to drop
Fox as its partner for the presidential primary debate?

The full text of the petition is:
"Fox is a mouthpiece for the Republican Party, not a legitimate news channel.
The Democratic Party of Nevada should drop Fox as its partner for the presidential
primary debate."

If you oppose this as much as I do (and I suspect most of you DO),
please take 60 seconds to add your name to their petition:

2. "Politeness" and "playing nice" are only appropriate up to a point.
And FoxNews passed that point LONG ago, IMO.

"Suicidal" is a pretty good word to describe this.

6. Exactly. If we really need to reach the Foxviewers, fine: Let Fox run a live feed.
Let them run it under the agreement that they broadcast
it "as is" without any of their none-too-subtle propaganda
captions.

But letting them HOST it? You're absolutely right about
the "questions" they'll "ask". They may word them more cleverly,
but you know perfectly well that they'll be designed to
paint Dems in a bad light, no matter the answer.

9. Did you see the site NewsHounds set up
http://foxattacks.com/

It is a site which gives information and tools needed to hit fox where it hurts -- in the pocketbook.

Interesting activism

14. Dems are fools of the first order to even think of allowing this
but then, after the past 6 years- make that 12 years, it seems as though they've learned little or nothing about the far right.
