Could Obama be the next Jimmy Carter?
By that I mean Obama is a straight ( I'll never lie) type of politician like
Carter was. You could say Bush is Nixon and Obama is Carter.

1. And certainly if he gets elected, he's inheriting a pile of shit like Carter did.
I also think that, if elected, Obama would be the kind of excellent and amazing ex-President that Carter has turned out to be.

3. Does Obama really want to be compared to Carter?

I don't think he wants to be thought of in the same way as Carter as president.

4. Concur - Carter is widely perceived as a well meant but weak and ineffective president.

8. True, but perceptions rule the day in the end.
People vote on what they perceive is true, not what are the facts

9. does that mean I shouldn't vote for Obama?
Carter brought back the hostages alive, produced an effective energy policy that Republicans only dumped on, and was fighting terrorism long before Republicans even admitted it existed.

I don't know many mainstream voters who thought Carter was weak and ineffective, but if that is what Obama believes..he just lost my vote!

12. Given the perception, I can understand the Obama (or another candidate) not wanting to be thought of
in that way

13. sorry, but drifting in the wind is worse than standing your ground..
if Obama thinks Carter has a bad image, then maybe he should spend more time thinking about what he wants to do as President..and less time listening to those who view divided government as nothing more than a nasty obstacle for the President.

14. I don't "get" your comparison, poster.
Please draw some valid comparisons that I can use as a starting point.
