4. Hmmmm I am in favor of fighting Terrorism
But Supporting Israel is a loaded phrase.

Let's say you had a buddy and he said to you "My goal is to eat 2,000,000 twinkies by Monday." You express disapproval of this slightly bizarre and certainly unhealthy plan. He then accuses you of not supporting him. That is the situation I find myself in with Israel particularly with Israeli conservatives. They continue to do want to do foolish and self destructive things; and since I want Israel to do well, I can't support these plans.

25. Excellent point
I am a strong supporter of the Israeli left, Peace Now, and the memory of Rabin.

As such, I fully believe in fighting terror and supporting Israel, but I don't think that supporting *every* Israeli government blindly in *everything* it does is likely to achieve either goal. Especially not when they are clearly being egged on by Bush in support of his nutty agenda for the Middle East.

But let's not go to the other extreme either - Israel is not the sole focus of terrorism in the Middle East!

10. No, the owner of that vehicle:
"Out to lunch", from AllWords.com:

Idiom: "out to lunch"
slang
Absolutely mad; completely out of touch with reality.

Idiom: "out to lunch"
slang
Said of a person: slightly crazy; in a dream world.

11. It's an oxymoron
Supporting Israel is the cause for terror.

The mid-east nations are upset that land was taken and given to Israel.

15. Alas, it did, in the UK, in the Palestine Mandate, and numerous other places...
Of course, it was deemed legitimate then. Now that everything's "settled" folks should just all "simma down" and accept their station in life.

No white hats in this game and supporting one country or another will surely not solve any thing.

20. I enjoyed reading
Jimmy Carter's new book. Balanced review of the Middle East conflicts from someone who actually did a lot to make things better.

He would agree with that sentiment because it is important to acknowledge reality in order to deal with it

23. He really is a remarkable writer
One of those people who you can imagine saying the words when you read them.

I really do admire him and I appreciate the statements he makes about Bush's foreign policy blunders, even though I realize that's not a generally accepted thing to do. But Bush is so horrid, he feels he has to say something and I'm glad he does.

Pacifists Gassed at West Bank Wall

Ramala, Palestine, Feb 23 (Prensa Latina) Hundreds of Palestinian and Israeli pacifists were repressed with teargas and rubber bullets by Tel Aviv police Friday during a demonstration against the construction of the West Bank wall.

The activists met in the area surrounding the fence in Bilin to commemorate the second anniversary of the protests against the building of that work to segregate the Palestinians.

During the demonstration, pacifist leader Uri Avnery declared the soldiers stationed there do not defend Israeli security and are only useful for the speculators still extending through Palestinian lands.

Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert proposed on January 31 to extend the fence to 7.45 miles, five of them east of the so-called Green Line, to annex two Israeli territories with a population of about 1,500 inhabitants.

If the proposal is accomplished about 20,000 Palestinians will be trapped in Israel.
