Great day in Kansas City today
After eight months, the minuteman on the parks board finally resigned. This has been a huge controversy. The mayor appointed her without doing a background check and when the Hispanic community found out she was a minuteman, they went crazy. La Raza and SCLC canceled conventions scheduled for KC. And the minutemen announced they will hold their convention here Feb 1st. This issue has really brought out the ugly in this city. So her resignation was great news.

Then at 4:00 this afternoon, the MO governor, Matt Blunt, announced he is not running for a second term. This is HUGE. He is Congressman Roy Blunt's son, he ran Bush's campaign in MO in 2004 and he has been a disaster as a governor, from kicking 100,000 Missourians off of Medicaid to ordering the highway patrol to check citizenship on every driver they pull over. He has been in trouble most recently for deleting emails. (Sound familiar? LOL)

And he made his announcement on youtube.

3. He said he has already done all he wanted to do for the state
Yes, he has done enough damage.

Can't help but wonder if he is in some kind of legal trouble. He spent $89K on legal fees the last two months.

9. Yes, even the right-wing members of the family hated what he did with Medicaid.
I think some of them *may* be starting to see the light. Let's hope so.

Thanks for the update.

16. Jay Nixon, current state AG
He is way ahead of Blunt in the polls and has been all along, since he announced.

12. So what is with the local media saying that Sarah Steelman
was going to oppose Blunt, and then Steelman announces she's seeking another term as Treasurer, and then Blunt says he won't seek a second term? This is all within a 24-hour period, ya understand.

Sounds like the Repubs have some super duper candidate ready to go, since Blunt had no chance of defeating Nixon.

Now who could that be? Jim Talent, once Romney's day is done?

14. I have a sneaking suspicion.....
that baby Blunt is on the short list for GOP VP. I called this awhile back. If it's McCain he would balance the ticket with youth. They would make a ridiculous claim of positive health care reform in MO. Baby blunt also has some kind of military creds.
So, they'd have a wager agaist Hillary on her hawkishness and Obama's freshness.
If that is the case, the Dems mount a good enough campaign there is a chance in the first place, and oddly enough the "good" news is, he did so much damage that I don't think he would be a huge asset in MO.

17. He is awful
I will never forget two years ago I was in Jeff City for Child Advocacy Day and Blunt spoke to our group. He said he was committed to doing all he can to help foster kids in MO. Then a few hour later I got home, turned on the TV and saw that right AFTER that speech he had cut foster care spending.

Lying Bastard.

20. He really is
Unfortunately, he's got some kind of draw that encouraged people to vote for him against their self interest. The religious right loves him. No matter what kind of monstrous crap, you can't shake the faith the hard core true believers had in him. Just another reason why I am thinking they might be thinking he would balance a McCain nomination.
I remember seeing a draft Matt Blunt for VP a couple of years ago, too. I suspect it may reappear.
I think he would be a perfect candidate, because despite the fact that they think he has been successful facts are stubborn and he can be painted as a failure. They may be too smart too choose him, but  At least we're ride of him.
Kinder however will be tough for Nixon to beat.

21. I think the religious right is why he won in the first place
but they came out strong to vote against gay marriage, he just happened to be in the right place at the right time.
I've got a very strong suspicion that our boy is up to his ears in legal trouble, what it is is going to be coming out quickly now. Last night on the news they said he's tried to resign three times before but papa doc wouldn't let him.
There must be some heavy stuff out there that he's trying to get a head start on, maybe he'll wind up down Paraguay way.

23. Oh yeah
Will the conventions come back to KC now, or is that a done deal? I'm positive that was her and hubby I saw a couple of months back, nobody can be that ugly inside and out and not be noticed.

24. They are saying the conventions will come back
I turned on AM radio yesterday afternoon to hear what our local right wingers were saying and I wanted to gag. First caller I heard was calling her "Saint Frances".

I kid you not. :puke:

19. Well that 's bad news for Rob Portman
former Ohio Congressman and Bush OMB Director who thinks he's in line to be someone's VP. Dang, that means he'll have to run for Voinovich's senate seat if V retires. Same shite, different sack.

25. Several names are floating around as Blunt's replacement: Peter Kinder, Roy Blunt
Edited on Thu Jan-24-08 09:03 AM by protect our future
(Roy runs for Gov, Matt runs for Congress), Talent, Sarah Steelman, others.

Peter Kinder would maybe be easy to beat. He has ties to corrupt entities.

VP or even Prez at some time in the future, but that will have to wait since he's being sued by Scott Eckersley for trashing e-mails/documents after Eckersley told him not to; then Eckersley (one of Blunt's attorneys) was fired for *incompetence.* There's probably other legal trouble as well.
