Yale frat men unhinged: "We Love Yale Sluts"
A group of Zeta Psi pledges assembled in front of the Yale Women's Center displaying a sign reading "We Love Yale Sluts." The photo of the event was posted on Facebook.com but since removed. Yale women's groups are threatening legal action, tho it is unlikely that such a challenge would have success.

Here is the link from Yale Daily News: http://www.yaledailynews.com/articles/view/23045

The fraternity has issued an apology.

1. Legal action?
Oh come on, ladies. You go to Yale. Surely you have some smarts, and these are just frat pledges. A lawsuit is just so . . . patriarchal, you know? There are far more effective and (dare I say it) humiliating weapons at your disposal that will ensure this sub-moronic demonstration isn't repeated for at least four years.

Looks like Zeta Psi can just disconnect their frat house water heater for a while.

2. Pretty much what Susan Estrich said in today's YDN.
And other constitutional experts. I could, myself, come up with some interesting "reprisals" myself. For instance, how about naming these guys in the photo? Being nameless in a crowd is pretty cowardly, if you ask me. If they were simply named and the names became public to all Yalies, these guys might find dates hard to get. Think about it, fellas, is what I'd say to them...that and "tough luck."

5. If a group of white students took a picture of themselves...
...holding up a sign that said "We Love Yale N-----s," in front of the Yale Afro American Cultural Center, would you feel the same way?

12. Yep
I'd get the best and the brightest members of the group together and come up with a creative response that would shame and humiliate the troglodytes behind the sign in such a fashion that a repeat performance would be exceedingly unlikely.

8. Hey, why don't you go up to Cambridge to volunteer?
I think you'd find out fast what "Harvard sluts" would do...ROFLMAO!!!

15. My little joke didn't work so well.

I meant the Harvard sluts would be suing the Yale frat boys for disenfranchisement because of the competition between the two schools.

ya ya, I know, lame joke.

20. It's the terminology that makes it not a joke, just like the "N" word.
If you could put it in that perspective, you'd get the visceral reaction that women have with the term "slut."

4. The internet is undoing a lot of the feminist gains of the 20th century, IMO.
I think it's notable that the first thing they wanted to do is post their photo on Facebook. Young people who grow up with the internet as their primary media and socialization source don't have any problems demeaning or degrading women, because online culture itself is so focused on objectifying women. There are a lot of great things about the internet, but when I hear stories like this, or about girls who are told http://www.google.com/search?q=tits+or+gtfo">"TITS or GTFO" when they try to express themselves, I feel like we've gone back 70 years.

18. One need look no further than the thoughtless responses to this story...
...for confirmation of what you're saying.

Fraternity guys...never liked them...and never disappointed my expectations of them.

But, it's all about brotherhood and networking, don't ya know... :sarcasm:

If they have pictures of the boys, they should expel them from Yale. Yale does not need the reputation of housing such intellectual and moral morons.

11. Yes, what an embarrassment for the Yale community!
As a resident of New Haven, I have a fair amount of interaction with Yale altho I myself am not a Yalie. You really have to wonder what these guys were thinking, if they were thinking at all. I, for one, would like to know...

13. As another "frat boy"...
...I'll thank you not to generalize us all as misongynists, thanks.

(Admittedly, I was in a music fraternity, which some might say doesn't count, but still...)

Howard Dean

Dr Benjamin Spock

Dean Cain

As one of those 'fratboys'...one feels the need to point out that while there are some assholes in the mix (and, in this case, the entire current pledge class at Yale), please try not to generalize too much about 'privileged mysogynist white boys'. Thank you.

14. You are so right! That is why this story is so seemingly out of place.
The Yalies I know are a very progressive bunch. It is just discouraging that this group, even as contained as it is in a much smaller community of one fraternity, feels empowered to do such an insulting thing. When I saw the headline in the YDN I nearly fell over. Lots of people are shocked by it...

19. It sure looks that way, doesn't it? However, here's one "benefit."
Yale women are learning that "eternal vigilance" is always necessary. That they can't ignore the struggle of feminists as "over."

We are learning this here at DU, much to our chagrin. We all want to move on to other battles but this stuff just keeps coming back, requiring a response.
