Man Pinned Under ATV In Frigid Temperatures

UPDATED: 11:36 am EST January 23, 2008

CROWSNEST PASS, Alberta --

For one Canadian paramedic, "survival mode" entailed eating dirt, warming himself with
dead beavers and fending off coyotes with a whistle. All the while, he was pinned under
an ATV for four days and three nights in frigid temperatures.

Ken Hildebrand was riding in Alberta bush country collecting animal traps when his ATV
hit a rock and rolled on his leg.

He said he kept himself alive by picking at the rotting beavers and eating dirt for moisture.

He said coyotes fought nearby, but he managed to keep them at bay with a whistle.

A hiker and his dog found Hildebrand in his fourth day, and he was taken to a hospital.

The ordeal may cost him his right foot, but one hospital official said it's amazing he survived at all.

The official said the only thing on Hildebrand's mind after the ordeal was that he would miss his
next paramedic shift.

:puke:

1. Anybody else see the irony here?
I'm not anti trapping or hunting, but a trapper that becomes trapped and has to eat rotting beavers and fend off coyotes is amusing on some levels.

2. Yeah... I guess but he did lose his foot and the article
didn't say what kind of traps he was using.

Lots of people trap in the USA too.
