What is the skinny on MoveOn?
Edited on Wed Jan-23-08 03:15 PM by truedelphi
I know that they got a lot of people to register to vote back in 2004.

But they didn't want to hear about the voting machinery. And if they had listened, it would have been a big help. They had VAST FINANCIAL RESOURCES, and could have perhaps even done something that the voting activists just didn't have the wherewithal to do. (Well, Bev Harris ended up having the wherewithal, but she tucked it away.)

Now the emails I get suggest that they understand that the voting machinery is a problem. But have they helped any voting activist organization that anyone knows about?

They are also a top down organization. They will contact you, but you cannot contact any of them who are in the higher spots of the organization.

1. I haven't received much from them lately...
But not long ago, some news program did a piece on Eli (forgot his last name) and showed his apartment, which is actually the headquarters. Amazing what a small outfit it is "at the top."

2. Well here is one tidbit from CBS News
Edited on Wed Jan-23-08 03:17 PM by truedelphi
"After the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, Eli Pariser, just out of college, started a petition calling for the United States to react with "moderation."

This comment later drew criticism from conservatives but won him a large following that inspired one of MoveOn's founders, Wes Boyd, to hire Pariser as one of the group's first full-time staff members. As executive director, Pariser runs the group out of his home in New York. MoveOn's employees rarely meet in person, instead communicating by e-mail or conference call."

Wes Boyd and his partner, who name I can't remember, foudned MoveOn at first using their own Silicon Valley-made money.

5. They didn't go far enough. His own troops came up with that nick.
AND the guy is corrupt, was linked with shady arms deals.

AND he's shilling for Bush on the backs of his troops.

7. I loved that ad.
And hated that Congress took the time to condemn it!

8. His payoff is going to be NATO commander.
As we go down the river, maybe we should remember to salute in his general direction.

10. i know what you mean, but
the repubs tried to make it look like an attack on the military. don't be surprised if it comes up again before the general election.

11. They always try to pull that. In this case, the man is a corrupt hack
and MoveOn got it exactly right.

At some point, you have to stand up for the truth.

Who gives a rats ass how they spin it?

MoveOn was right on with that ad!

Rethugs just can't handle the truth or tell it.

14. Many people are offended by reality.
I'm all for talking to people instead of attacking them.

But when you softpedal the truth at the expense of lives, there are consequences.

16. 20-26% of people. oddly, the same number support fascism in america
and military domination of the planet. I don't care if they get offended. In fact I want them to get offended at every opportunity.

15. Oh indeed let us not do anything that those fearsome rethuglians
might use against us. That strategy sounds so familiar. The thing I like most about MoveOn is that they are not afraid to go straight up against the right, are not afraid to point out that the emperor is butt naked, are willing to say what has to be said.

17. I got an email...
that included a registration form, and a link to find out if you were already registered. It was very timely, as I assumed I was still registered...which I was...but I would not have checked without that email.
