Has anybody here ever seriously considered running for elected office?

Inquiring minds want to know if any of us have ever considered putting our money where our mouth is--all too literally!

2. There are definitely office-holders here!

I know that Elizabeth Edwards has posted here, probably the most notorious. Various DUers hold local offices, and who knows who may actually be posting here, after all...

I'd consider it, but a) I'm way too prone to tears under stress and b) there are pics out there that I *know* would be found and used against me.

I definitely DO NOT represent the majority view in my area. Wouldn't be sensible to waste time or money.

8. No, but my husband did-for county judge

He stopped campaigning after we had to work on stopping clear cutting in the forest. He felt that was more important than going along with the good old boys who were brainwashed into thinking it was better to have the corporations come in and rape the forest rather than let local loggers do it. I was followed to work - they tried to run me off the road - and one person came to our house with a loaded gun, drunk, ready to kill my husband. Luckily, hubby was able to talk sense into the man's head. But it was obvious that it was going to be an uphill battle, so he stopped. Still got about 30 votes, though.

9. I ran for County Mayor. Lost, but gave the GOP opponent a fight!

He expected a cakewalk after the GOP Primary, where our county-wide elections are usually decided.

It was expensive, but I had great supporters, learned a whole lot, opened some eyes about what was going on in the country government re cronyism and wasteful spending, showed them what a professional approach was compared to the "good old boy" approach and I enjoyed it. I got plenty of voters thinking and we'll see if it ever turns into anything in the future. It gave the local Democrats a shot in the arm and made the county aware of the fact that there are two parties which can run candidates (and Independents, of course).

It was a tough office to take on, but I think it was worth it.

10. Yep, local school board

in the mid 90's. Lost the first time, won the 2nd time. In many respects mirrored on a local scale the problems of the last 8 years.

Reminds me of this...

The records were stored in the Clinton Campaign headquarters in Little Rock, in a locked room for which only Hillary, Bill and Betsey Wright had keys. Also in "the Box Room" under lock and key were details of Bill's sexual capers and Hillary's dealings at Rose Law. An internal '92 campaign memo, quoted by Gerth and Van Natta, cited 75 "problem files" in the materials in the Box Room, two-thirds of which related to them as a couple or to Hillary alone. 12. Stongly considered running for school board about 10 yrs. ago.

Can't run for that now, as I'm a teacher in the school system, but am considering running for county commission in the future. Probably 2 elections from now, because I'm recovering from some health issues at present & want to be in top shape b/4 taking on that arduous task.

13. I've been asked to run for city council, but I like my privacy and I love

retirement. I'd rather be precinct captain or Legislative District Chair.
