All you need to know about Ronald Reagan...
Edited on Thu Jan-24-08 08:11 PM by catnhatnh
...and those who praise him. In 1974 Patty Heast, heiress to the Hearst newspaper fortune was kidnapped by the violent Symbonese Liberation Army and as part of the ransom demand the Hearst family was forced to give away free food to the poor of California. They complied. Reagan, then governor of California in no way affected her rescue.Though the state did not rescue her and the ransom paid by the family involved no public funds, he was moved to comment on the giveaway...

"It's just too bad we can't have an epidemic of botulism."--In response to the Hearst family's free food giveaway.

Let us reflect on this-he didn't lift a finger to help, no public money was spent, the recipients were innocent of any wrong-doing but were hungry-and his wish was that they receive poisoned food. I hate the Bastard much worse and for much more...but this is all you need to know about the "president" being praised...

5. Try a couple more early quotes...
"The entire graduated income tax structure was created by Karl Marx. It has no justification in getting government revenue."--During the 1966 gubernatorial campaign in California

"We should declare war on North Vietnam. We could pave the whole country and put parking stripes on it, and still be home by Christmas."--1966

"Welfare recipients are a faceless mass waiting for a handout."--1966

6. Before they cleaned him up for national consumption...
"Let me point out that my administration makes no bones about being business-oriented."--As California governor, 1967

"If it's a bloodbath they want, let's get it over with."--Concerning student demonstrations, 1970

4. Find a quote where a leading Democratic contender
praised Ronald Reagan... and post the whole quote... and tell me where it praises Reagan.

Obama said Reagan was effective. That's all.

Oh wait, here is one from Hillary:

"He (Reagan) played the balance and the music beautifully" - Hillary Rodham Clinton.

and here it is in context:

In the book, Clinton expresses a preference for Reagan over current conservatives such as Karl Rove. Brokaw writes that Clinton told him that Reagan was "a child of the Depression, so he understood it (economic pressures on the working and middle class). When he had those big tax cuts and they went too far, he oversaw the largest tax increase. He could call the Soviet Union the Evil Empire and then negotiate arms-control agreements. He played the balance and the music beautifully."

Sounds like a bit of praise to me, maybe even more so than saying Reagan was effective.

Where is the outrage over this from the same people that were outraged over the Obama interview?

Oh, this book is just now being published... so this isn't some quote from a long ago funeral speech or something.

You know, the one thing I dislike more than anything else is hypocrisy... hence my sig line that I've had since joining DU 5 years ago.

Fuck the piece of shit. I'm pissed he lost his mind and died before he could be held accountable.

13. "pave the whole country"
That means nuke it flat, yes?

I'll never forgive or forget how we trained contras in the art of rape as a tool of political persuasion.

And I hope we've learned the lesson of trying to be bi-partisan and forgiving and forgetting so as not to make things awkward for the chummy club that is congress. The evil frakers just come back after an election cycle or two.

is what I saw and hear during his time.

"He was the most profoundly ignorant president since Harding."
