Sucks sucks sucks... can't wait till the next pile of crap hits me
driving home from work today a deer hit my car - right front bumper, front fender, grill, hood radiator and who know what else is smashed

called AAA for a tow, called my partner because I couldn't drive the car. AAA said someone would be there in an hour. Partner showed up, we waited - no tow truck

AAA calls me back, said they were working on trying to locate a tow service. :eyes: Shouldn't be long now.

1/2 later they call again - they freaking can't find anyone so they contacted local town cop who should be able to get me towed. Local cops out here are not authorized to call out a tow on a state road, nor do they have tow trucks. hang up with AAA, phone rings - local cops saying they can't help, but they called state police

state police showed up - confirms that a deer did hit my car because there's fur hanging off the front of the car and asks if I need a tow...

dUUUUHHH, yeah, AAA said you would authorize one for me. State cop "Huh? they said what?" and then he goes into a tirade about AAA being useless.

anyways he calls a tow truck, driver want $125, but says the repair service I would use will pick up the car in the morning and get the money from insurance company or AAA and pay him later. Not to worry.

got home, after sitting in freaking 21 degree weather, freezing. took a hot shower, partner gets on the phone with AAA, reams them good - they will cover the tow.

get out of the shower, make myself a large stiff drink (which is just hitting me now - so forgive any drunken typos)

called the insurance company, filed the claim. have to call collison place tomorrow to make arrangements for the tow.

meanwhile, it's $500 deductible which I don't have, and I'm going to have to rent a car so I can get to work using money I don't have.

Freaking out. I am freaking freaking out... how much more crap can be thrown on me? Since march - I've been laid off twice, my partner is laid off, had two other accidents - neither my fault, now the freaking stupid deer

If anyone wants me - I'll be curled up in a corner sucking my thumb

3. Geez, Rad, that does suck
Reminds me of the night I hit a deer. I'm a real animal lover and had to watch it suffer till locating cop with gun. Horrible experience. This was early 70's and deer messed up my cool Mach I, but it was driveable. So deer is dead, and I continue home only to hit and kill a collie 5 miles down the road. I felt like Lady MacBeth that night with all that blood on my hands.

About lousy AAA, the job situation, the ruined car you have my sympathies. I think you're doing the right thing - drink and sit in a corner. Then drink more. I'll have one for you.

Hope life gets better for you really soon!

5. several people did stop and ask if I needed one help
one guy asked if I needed to use a cell phone, told him no, i had one, called for a tow etc. and thanked him

he headed back to his car and then came back, points across the road "that the deer you hit?" he asks

I say yes

he asks "you want it?"

me: no

next thing I know he's dragging the deer across the road and throwing into his trunk

16. Nice that people stopped
About the deer, I do have a good venison chili recipe I could have passed along. Don't think I could have eaten something I actually killed, though, so I'm with you there.

I thought I remembered you having another accident not too long ago. I don't know why shit happens in clumps like that. I've never seen any use to those times when nothing goes right. Hang in there. It will pass.

15. What a pain
A coyote hit my daughter's car, dented the side and tore off the rear view mirror. She had to pay a big deductible too. Damn coyotes, damn deer!
Hang in there. At least you have a partner and don't have to go through this alone.

17. I had a similar experience 15 years ago.
Stranded on the highway for four hours in sub-freezing temperatures, gave up waiting for fucking A to get a tow. Walked 10 miles to the nearest town. Arranged my own tow and have refused to use fucking A ever since. My wife still insists on getting it, I won't have one thing to do with them.

18. They left me waiting for hours on the on ramp to the Bay Bridge
on my son's prom night. What a train wreck. I finally took a cab home to Berkeley. And they never got a cent from any of us again.

20. Going to cancel AAA
why pay for something useless when you don't have to?

They are going to send out some form for us to fill regarding reimbursing us for the tow. Probably take a week to get the damn form, then who knows how long it will take for them to "review" and cut the check.

Turns out the tow services they tried to call were located anywhere's from 30-50 miles away. Idiots. there's at least 5 places 10-15 miles from where I was that they could have contacted, and they all were AAA 'approved'.
