Sports and Conservative Radio in Massachusetts
Hi all... I'm a sports fan... have been most of my life. Actually, I can't think of a time when I haven't been. Since my football team is on the brink of winning a Superbowl and being the only team in NFL history with an unbeaten record of 19-0, I have been tuning into sports talk radio; this is a first for me.

I don't generally mind hearing a few jabs offered towards politicans now and then, but I do have a problem with sports talkers infusing their political agenda 24-7. When I tune in to sports talk, I expect sports... not politics. Well, this morning while listening to Dennis and Callahan on WEEI Sports Talk, I had to unfortunately listen to these two meat head conservatives make fun of Heath Ledger OD'ing on pills. Now, I don't even know what really happened to him, I don't know whether it was an accident or whether it was suicide, but coming from these two idiots I would have thought he had killed himself due to hating himself. They were even laughing at his death.... disgusting? I thought so... I guess just acting in a movie dealing with homosexuality is that much of a threat to these mouth breathers.

Yesterday, all the sports talk blabbers were all up in arms about an ESPN personality making a racist derogatory remark towards Tiger Woods. It soon became a topic about all announcers and the war on PC (yes, just like the war on Christmas). They defended her with passion... they even threw this one out regarding offensive things to not say on radio or tv, just to give you an idea of what they sounded like: "It's ok to say inflammatory things about Catholics and Christians, but say anything about Muslims, and .... blah, blah, blah. This is pure shit. All ya have to do is turn on Glenn Beck, on CNN for God's sake and you will hear plenty of deragatory shit frothing from his mouth. WHAT PLANET DO THESE APES LIVE ON?

This is a BIG problem in Massachusetts as we are a Democratic/Progressive State overall, but we are forced to listen to only conservative talk shit all day long. There is no such thing as liberal or democratic talk radio in this state, even though we are primarily a blue state. But sports too????? This is more of an issue with monopolies trying to force their political leanings on everybody. It's no wonder dipshit conservatives think we liberals and democrats are crazy. All they hear is shit from the right, with very little staright talk from the left. By shutting out other points of view they are building the illusion that their politics is the norm or held by a majority. This is just not true of course, but that's what companies like Clear Channel are doing, and it's pretty damn obvious to me that they do have a political agenda.

Talk about living in the Soviet Union where all you hear is one point of view and nothing else... hell, it's happening here in one of the bluest states in thew Union.

PS - before you tell me not to listen to it, might I add THERE IS NOTHING ELSE TO LISTEN TO and I should be able to listen to spoprts talk without hearing right wing garbage! There is a market for the left, they just don't want to cater to us... it's political censorship by default and it pisses me off. If there are groups in Mass trying to change this, will somebody please let me know?

1. Do you get ESPN radio?
Mike & Mike in the morning and Dan Patrick (though I think he changed networks) are pretty un-obnoxious and have interesting shows for sports programming.

I've avoided the station for the last decade or so.

13. I Can't Blame You
You'd think a business that deals with sports will be a bit more conscious of the fact that there are many Democrats and people on the left who also enjoy sports.

3. you confuse liberal/dem and conservative/repub
mass is a liberal state because of the dem party, but make no mistake about it...mass is more conservative than most people think.

people here are Democrats of convenience. You cannot get elected in most areas if you are a GOP.

it is changing and I welcome it. I am a liberal and would love to have pen debates with cons who now hide

7. How true...
Lots of closet Republicans parading around as Democrats. The 'don't ask, don't tell' policy is about way more than being gay in the military.

4. Try NPR - That's where my car radio stays most of the time
It's either NPR or music radio for me. I totally boycott the RW nuts.

5. WEEI always known for that shit ...
remember the METRO bus "gorilla" flap? It was shitheads from there.

Truth be told, maybe we should all listen to it for the next week so we'll b ready for this:

On Feb. 3, a k a Super Bowl Sunday, in an original News Corp. smorgasbord, reporters from FOX News will be teaming up with reporters from FOX owned and operated stations from around the country for a three hour broadcast event, focusing on—USA! USA!—presidential politics and professional football.

Shepard Smith, of FOX News, will headline the production from Glendale, Ariz., the site of this year’s Super Bowl. FOX News anchor (and Cincinnati Bengals fanatic) Bill Hemmer will contribute from New York, along with Fox News’ Megyn Kelly.

As the anchors toggle back and forth between discussion of the Super Bowl and Super Tuesday, they will chew over political dispatches from FOX Broadcasting reporters from around the country. More from today’s announcement:

FOX Super Sunday will also include a behind-the-scenes look as the action gets underway for the Superbowl. Meanwhile, FOX Business Network's Alexis Glick will offer a peek at the best commercials and the economics behind the biggest sporting event of the year while FOX News correspondents Carl Cameron and Major Garrett will provide live updates from the campaign trail alongside correspondent Bret Baier in Washington, D.C.

Also reporting from campaigns across the country will be Dick Brennan (WNYW FOX 5) with Rudy Giuliani, Harry Martin (WWOR My9) with Hillary Clinton, Jack Conaty (WFLD FOX 32) with Barack Obama, Scott Sayres (KDFW FOX 4) with Mike Huckabee, Joe Battenfeld (WFXT FOX25) with Mitt Romney, Steve Krafft (KSAZ FOX 10) with John McCain, Jason Carter (WHBQ FOX 13) with Fred Thompson and Bob Buckley (WGHP FOX8) with John Edwards.

10. Yes I Do, But I Am Talking about Radio in General
Also, since 1998 NPR has gone rightward and more corporate.

14. Get streaming audio online
The days when listeners were doomed to radio stations only within their own broadcast range are long gone, and good riddance. I'm an aging Luddite, but even I can listen to practically any radio station across the country or any radio personality with the smarts to set up a web site.

15. ESPN is unfortunately on a lot in our break room: hateful cult of macho BS
Yeah, yeah...I know. Disdain for sports in this country immediately relegates one's social position on many counts, but there it is. I apparently wasn't born with the gene that induces big heaps of enthusiasm over "gladiators" tossing and chasing balls around. The running commentary of ESPN sounds like a bunch of screaming, hateful FOX-esque blowhards whoose only concern is for empty, self serving concerns...and, well, sorry, but the only ones I see there who respond favorably to that shit are like minded. I have plenty of friends and family though who have their favorite teams, etc...but they're not of the overzealous variety.
