Anti-UN County issues threat to feds
What is the matter with my county?

Our county, Otero County, home of Alamogordo which is usually named as site of the first atom bomb test and a Harry Potter book-burning church, is so anti-UN that it passed several resolutions with fines and jail time for anyone supporting a United Nations World Heritage Site designation for the White Sands National Park. Today's newspaper had the headline, "County Issues Threat to Feds." Commissioner Doug Moore "... suggested the letter identify the violation of four ordinances and provide a notice of intent to sue if WSNM is not removed from the tentative list.

Commissioner Doug Moore said whoever signed the letter recommending WSNM be on the list in the first place should receive a citation.

The county ordinance states no one can sign such a letter.

"This is a verbatim violation of the language," Moore said.

"We need to go after the guy who signed the letter."

The maximum penalty under the law for violating the ordinance is $300 and 30 days in jail.

During unscheduled communications, Janet White stood to support the decision.

"On behalf of 1,200 people who signed the petition (against WSNM becoming a World Heritage Site) I would like to commend you."

I know somebody like that. He's against all taxes, etc. One time when he was railing against the government and taxes, I stopped him short by telling him "Fine, now don't drive on public roads, don't use government services like water, sewer, fire and police, take your kids out of the public schools, and don't bother me when you have a problem. It's been about 5 years now and he doesn't talk to me anymore.
P.S. He's also a bushbot. and yep, he lives in NM

4. Otero County is keeping the ACLU busy on other fronts...
It won't surprise you to read that our County Sheriff is being sued by ACLU, among others, for something else:
http://www.aclu-nm.org/ "...Families Sue Otero County Sheriffs Over Illegal Immigration Raids
Civil rights groups say sheriffs “broke trust” with community (10-17-07)
LAS CRUCES, NM—Civil rights groups sued the Otero County Sheriff’s Department today for civil rights violations committed during immigration sweeps last September in the southern New Mexico town of Chaparral..."

I'm working for change, 'cause Lord knows we need it.

3. So the First Amendment does not exist in Otero County?
How in the bloody hell can a county government make this a crime?
