Bill Moyers tonight on PBS
The possibility of a lasting economic downturn is the talk of the globe. From the gathering of the world leaders at the World Economic Summit in Davos, Switzerland, to the 24-hour cable market analysts, to the White House and all those on the campaign trail, reassurance, blame and proffered solutions are a dime a dozen. Many of the new headlines seem to focus on the big players — banks, countries, corporations and markets — not individuals. Sociologist Katherine Newman returns to THE JOURNAL to talk about how Americans all over the economic spectrum are affected by the ups and downs of the global economy

Bill Moyers interviews John Grisham, best-selling author of THE FIRM, THE PELICAN BRIEF, and THE RAINMAKER, in a far-ranging conversation that gives viewers insight into the beliefs and background that influenced Grisham's work and provides an unexpected look at his views about the state of the nation.

WINNING THE VOTE
A look at another record-breaking cycle in campaign ad spending.

THE DOWNTURN ON THE HOMEFRONT
Sociologist Katherine Newman on the global markets' effect on kitchen table issues.

MOYERS ON THE RHETORIC AND THE REALITY
Bill Moyers compares the rhetoric coming out of Washington with the reality on the ground when it comes to some major issues: the economy, the war, prospects for peace in the Middle East.

10. Are you talking about "The Innocent Man"? That's on my to-read
table. Recently finished 'The Partner' and thought it was great!

11. No he has a new one coming out next month
on the consequences of electing judges. I haven't read "The Innocent Man" yet but want to read this new one first. I don't even know the name yet.

He'll be speaking with Carter and Gore on a Baptist Social forum dealing with the importance of caring in religion.

13. The book I mentioned is
subtitled, "Murder and Injustice In A Small Town". Is that the one you read, is what I meant.

4. Thanks for the heads up, RedEarth!
I watch Moyers every chance I get. One of the last true journalists working today. If I can't watch it live I usually catch the video from his show's homepage. It looks like this will be a good show.
