If you are retired and planing on that rebate-guess again

edited for grammar-this is not a 420 post, sorry I can't make a joke out of this issue. My son is disabled and struggles to make it on disability. We should all be outraged with this. Bush is using this to quiet his base and ensure that they vote repug in November.

13. I understand you were pointing out an error in my grammar, but...
Your comment and the first one sets a tone, that marginalizes an important issue. Too many on this board don't seem to care that the few dollars they might get will affect the poor, unemployed and disabled severely. Having a disabled adult child does not give me the luxury to laugh with you.

16. It is not that I don't care,
I appreciate the struggles most everyone is facing under this mis-administration. Sorry for your own difficult situation. Humor is a coping tool for me, and FWIW, I will receive nothing from this dole.

Edited on Sat Jan-26-08 12:02 AM by unapatriciated
I have used humor to cope on many occasions. I'm a little too defensive sometimes. :pals:

on edit: my son is in college and doing better than most who are disabled. I'm in a position to help him financially, but there are so many who do not have family that can help.

4. same goes for most of the disabled
few can work and have poverty level incomes. They won't get a cent either. Something is very wrong here! Those that need the most get nothing!

I'm glad to hear that you will be getting yours. At this point no one is really sure who is getting what.

25. I did read the entire article. I am getting a check because I paid
taxes. Someone living on ONLY SS doesn't pay any taxes so therefore no rebate.

I even had to pay taxes on some of my SS,and I'm far from rich.

10. Many seniors dont have earnings, or pay taxes- obviously you do, but
the way I read that, those who jusdt get social security and dont work will not
receive a "rebate"

8. Why dont seniors have a lobbyist? they're the major voting group - AARP is an ins co, not
a lobbyist company for seniors...they're why seniors are stuck with paying
a donut hole in their part D and why we have higher pharma prices....AARP said it was a good deal....for who?

Seniors of 20 million need their own lobbyist in this country

14. not all are that fortunate, My earnings qualify me.....
but I do not want a tax rebate that will leave the poor, unemployed and disabled at even more of a disadvantage. This is a bribe to his base to keep them voting repug and does nothing to fix the economy.

19. What does that solve?
Edited on Sat Jan-26-08 11:18 AM by unapatriciated
There are already over 200,000 homeless vets and many more non vets who are homeless because they couldn't find employment before their benefits ran out. This shameful bribe will force even more onto the streets when they don't extend their benefits. Many children and disabled will go to bed hungry at the end of the month because there will be no raise in food stamps to keep up with ever rising food cost. Instead I think I will call and write letters to the Senate I would prefer this bill was scrapped and they came up with a real solution. A solution that doesn't punish the least among us.

20. I'm not speaking of the value or limitations of the package, I am speaking
of what one person can do to help in the immediate problem of hunger. Sure we need long term solutions, but what good are long term solutions for people who are hungry now.

21. Even if you could get everyone to donate their rebate.....
it still wouldn't solve the problem. We need real solutions to our crumbling infrastructure, not bribes for votes. Look at the timing of this and who really benefits (more corporate tax breaks)we all know how great that worked out for us last time.

Edited on Sat Jan-26-08 04:50 PM by alfredo
they run out of month. Giving to charity doesn't mean we don't need to do long range reforms. You want the people to survive long enough to take advantage of the new jobs.

23. I give to charity anyway and do not a need a bribe that....
would leave the poor out of money in the "middle" of the month. You are kidding with that new jobs statement right? This package will not create new jobs. Do you not remember the last bush deal like this? Yeah more McJobs is all the least among us deserve.:sarcasm:

OK. I'd rather they take enough time to do a thorough job and get it right.
