Okay, it seems the stimulus package is skipping retirees and disabled
people...

I guess people who can't work or who have retired aren't gonna spend that extra money the "plan" as it is now proposed gives to working people...

Damn, and if I would have gotten that extra $600.00 bucks I would have played the market instead of spending it on foolish things like med's or other such nonsense...

Really now...

The people who need it most and would be most likely to spend it will not get a single cent...

If I was making actually working now, like I would if I could, I would but that money in the bank or pay off my credit card balance just to fuck with the plan...

And since I still do tax returns and advise a few folks on money matters, that is exactly what I am going to tell them to do with their "windfall"...

1. Yes, but this way it doesn't go to the undeserving.
See, if you aren't working your ass off at three jobs...you ain't worth nothin'. Just an expense to your country.

6. Damn right. Not gonna let any of those useless eaters sneak onto the dole.
Besides which, both retirees and disabled people cost the system money. That $600 could prolong their lives, to the detriment of every millionaire in the country.

2. The stimulous package is a bad joke
Edited on Fri Jan-25-08 10:42 PM by FreakinDJ
The Dems need to make a clean break with that stupid idea Chimpy came up with before they are blamed for the whole thing.

$600 to spend on Chinese made goods at Walmart will only add to trade/currancy imbalances and further frustrate the problems America is faced with

This is what a REAL Stimulous package looks like

10. I suppose you like some consider FDR's trying to rescue
America during the Great Depression was stupid. This is kensyian
Ecnomics. You better believe the country is in trouble or the
Conservatives would never do this.

We really need to get past Bush hatred enough to see what is
happening to our fellow citizens. Or did you take a swig
of the Regan KoolAid?

23. FDR's Rescue Came After the Fact
Wild speculation and the ensuing crash were what brought on the Depression.

Shrubbie is delaying the inevitable so someone else can get the blame.

26. Read the link - I would prefer a REAL stimulous package
Edited on Sat Jan-26-08 08:20 AM by FreakinDJ
The checks are just like the 2001 Bush stole the Florida election payoff we had and won't accomplish any meaningfull economic stimulous.

"Give a man a fish, he eats for 1 night - Teach a man to fish, he eats for the rest of his life"

We need to bring back good paying American jobs for the working class

3. Elderly have tooooo much money and are not influenced by advertising
they are commited to their brands.

That's why so few industries target products to this group other than denture cream, viagra and clones, and wheelchairs.

If an old fart gets money, they'll be stingy with it. Gahd you can't stimulate an economy by giving grummpy old men and women any amount of money because we'll just stand there and complain about the cheap quality of products available from China or India and scare away the twenty somethings who ARE willing to spend.

5. Where I live and work in AZ....
is a retirement community. Many survive off Social Security.

Often, those people are also those who gather at the local food bank each week.

They paid their dues and now they will be ignored????

I'm willing to give up MY refund so those less fortunate will receive SOMETHING.

Anyone else?????????????????

12. Do you go to the GV food bank every week for your week's food?
I know some who do. Right there on Continental Rd.

Are these people going to get this 'fantastic' rebate? I doubt it.

14. I love that idea!!!
giving up your refund to those who are less fortunate. Those stupid checks are not coming until May.

What are people's situations going to be in May???? And I hate how they imply people can go and buy their flat screen TV's how disrespectful they are towards the American people.

21. This "refund" will just be taxed as income anyway
It's not like they are actually giving anyone their money back.

I don't my "refund" either if they are going to ignore 50 million Americans. To hell with their stimulus package. What a senseless and selfish joke. Just another way to let the corps slice off 50% of their losses.

How about if we put the 150 billion toward rebuilding US infrastucture instead so we can all benefit.

2007 or 2008? Ironically, I retired from my job this year after paying into ss one month.

9. SS is taxed
At least I think it is. I started receiving checks just this month so I won't pay any tax on it until 09. Some seniors live on less that the $3000 cutoff so where is the help for those that paid into the system for years?

Even though I think the money being handed out is not much better than a joke, I could have used it!

We can't fund the kids' health insurance, but we can give the working folks money?

It makes me mad...

Your advice to your clients is right on!

18. This isn't very encouraging
This is a travesty. If anyone would need the financial help it would be the senior citizens on a fixed income and the disabled. The stimulas package is more or less a joke. It's like the Democrats had to give on the needy and the Republicans had to give on something else(forgot what it was), for the bill to pass.

25. Well...isn't this just a load of good news...NOT!!! I'm disabled and my
son is too. We used to go to the food bank to get help because food stamps didn't cut it. that was two years ago...now I'm going back for the first time in 2 years. I "thought" I'd get this "rebate", but once again we don't matter. We are the poorest of the poor living WAY below the poverty line. This just sucks!
