1. I'm more familiar with the default: "Some of my best
friends are ________."

5. You gay people need to stop flaunting your sexuality,
and cramming it down other people's throats. :eyes:

4. Yes, they often begin with that, but I often hear
"I'm not racist or anything but ya gotta admit that ___________ people are/do ___________."

I hear the "friend" one a lot, like another commenter noted.

I also hear, "Hey, I like ____________ (public figure from group X), but __________ people __________."

I also dislike how only people of color can/have to "transcend race." What that's really saying is that white is default/standard.

Or how about when speaking in the standard "general american" dialect is somehow a special feat.

LOL, let me stop, I'm starting to rant.

6. The other night at a party a guy started one saying, "I have nothing against Italians but this is
funny.." Before he could start the joke I told him, "Hey, I'll just go on and walk away so you can tell your Irish joke next."

7. Same goes for misogynists....
Today my boss said whenever he gets a woman on the phone for tech support he's prepared to be disappointed. Oh well, too bad. We're stuck with what we got, a bunch of flawed fellow humans.

10. How about: "I don't want to offend anyone, but"....
And then proceed to say something totally, outrageously offensive.

13. What I don't get is
how someone that isn't a racist or supremist, not by a long shot, might happen to have said something that others deem racist or sexist and they are labelled for life. They just might as well go join the skinheads because they'll be treated like one.

My boss is like 63 years old and he hired a black girl to work the evening shifts.. long story short...He said she was a "colored girl". I said, "I'm not sure man, but I think you can get in shit for saying that now...."
He must be a racist piece of shit eh?

14. If one has to be told {repeatedly} that "it's just a joke," it's usually not
"Just given ya shit." We've all overheard or dealt with some blowhard twit like that at one point or another.

16. But is anyone really 100% non-racist?
I don't discriminate based on race, nor tolerate discrimination from others, but do I have certain preconceptions based on race? Yes, and I would bet most people in America do, too.

If I see a white guy and a black guy walking out of the mall pulling out their remotes, and an Escalade with 24's beeps and blinks, I'm probably going to think the odds are better that it belongs to the black guy.

If I see a pickup truck blaring country music at a stoplight and pull up next to it, I'm probably going to expect to see a redneck white guy.

Do these preconceptions make me racist? I don't know.... does anyone else here make assumptions like that?

If I was holding interviews for one of our open positions, I would not care which guy showed up, I would care which one could do the job.

If I had to take a cross-country trip with one of them, would I avoid either one because of his race? No. (I'd probably avoid the guy who was blaring country music; I can't stand that stuff.) :)

Not sure I have a point here, just rambling. I got in an argument here once because I said something like, "I'm not particularly racist..." Apparently, while accurate, it was not acceptable to say.
