Impeachment of Bush AND Cheney would already be underway.

We've been trained to expect so little of them (when they held no power), they seem not to want to exceed our expectations (now that they do).

1. But, we don't want leadership
we want to hold hands with the repubs and work with them.........or we work around the system with them. Either way we are screwed, unless we actually get a dem in there that has a back bone.

2. my theory about the Democrats' refusal to impeach is that they're scared shitless . . .
of George Bush and the entire BushCo apparatus . . . they've calculated -- and probably rightly so -- that any attempt at impeachment will be met by an engineered crisis that will enable Bush to derail impeachment snd formally assume dictatorial powers, including shutting down the Congress . . . and they're scared shitless about what that crisis might be, and how it would be engineered . . .

contrary to what some may believe, these people are not stupid . . . they know what BushCo is capable of, and it terrifies them . . .

4. I'm pretty sure getting elected to Congress doesn't turn normal people into cowards.
Besides, the record shows they've fought the administration at historic levels:

"President Bush's success rating in the Democratic-controlled House has fallen this year to a half-century low, and he prevailed on only 14 percent of the 76 roll call votes on which he took a clear position.

"So far this year, Democrats have backed the majority position of their caucus 91 percent of the time on average on such votes. That marks the highest Democratic unity score in 51 years."

Don't let the media rhetoric fool you. The Democrats have acquitted themselves quite well--especially given their bare majority in both houses, and a relentlessly obstructionist Republican minority.

5. For some, I don't think it's a matter of courage any more. I really do believe that
there is complicity going on.
