3. Free Republic gets its money from the RNC

Can't provie it, but circumstantial evidence is pretty strong.

I have watched the last ten Free Republic fund-raisers and every one has gone the same way. First, the fund drive is announced, and the little horizontal thermometer starts creeping its way across FR's home page.

After a month, it has gone 20% of the distance it has to go. After two months, 28%. After 7 weeks, 29% and then -- suddenly, a day or so before the scheduled end of the fund-raiser, that thermometer shoots ahead, magically, to 90% or more.

IOW, there is ALWAYS a single, large infusion of cash near the end of every Free Republic fund-raiser. Always, the donations trickle in, and just as they start to trickle out, somebody takes action. It appears that someone observes Free Republic's fund-raisers, waits to see how they will do on their own, and when it looks like they won't do good enough to keep FR's doors open, anonymously donates over 50% of the total amount sought overnight.

What somebody or something would do that?

Well, who benefits the most from having half-informed, hate-mongering, lynch-mob Freepers at their disposal -- ready to phone and blast fax and make obnoxious oafs of themselves?

Why, the Republican Party, of course.
