Olbermann Breathing Down O'Reilly's Neck!!!
Edited on Fri Feb-23-07 10:30 PM by Cheney Killed Bambi
Check out these ratings!! Olbermann is close to overtaking O'Reilly.

The Scoreboard: Thursday, February 22
25-54 demographic: (LS)

O'Reilly -- 450

Olbermann -- 309

Zahn -- 130

Grace -- 186

http://www.mediabistro.com/tvnewser/ratings/the_scoreboard_thursday_february_22_53740.asp

Just last week, O'Reilly was desperately claiming that his rating were 3 times Olbermann's. Well, now he can't even claim to be up by 2-1. Every month I look at these numbers, Olbermann gets closer and closer. In a few months, I predict they'll be tied. And by the fall, we'll see a NEW #1 cable news leader!

:woohoo:

2. I am so sure that you don't slow down for carwrecks alongside the road.
People like shock; people like drama and are drawn to gaping at tragedies. It's not surprising to me that the ongoing trainwreck that is Nancy Grace gets a lot of viewers. The only surprise is that she hasn't imploded by now.

9. I don't.
But, then again, I was a reporter for 12 years and I covered emergency service personnel. I've seen enough wrecks to last me a lifetime. I don't care to see any more.

38. I don't, either - people who stop to gape at car wrecks in the other lane on the freeway
to see blood are one of the sources of great disgust to me when I drive. I make a specific point of NOT looking and NOT contributing to the slowing of traffic when I can. And I haven't tuned in even once to Nancy Grace's show. Seeing her a few times in the past on Larry King where she completely disgraced herself was enough for me. I for one would prefer to see philosophy or science being discussed by the talking heads on television, instead of the sensationalism we have now.

However, in the 25-54 demographic, Olbermann is gaining.

5. The 25-54 demographic
Is the one that advertisers look at when setting advertising. Therefore, it is the one that is most valuable to the network.

6. Yeah, I know.
Kathy Griffith's Mom loves O'Reilly. On her show, Mom had gotten an autographed picture of Billo. Kathy held it up and pointed at her Mom, saying, "This is your demographic, Bill!" Mom looked to be about 75 or 80.

So Billo's got about 2 million viewers either under 25 or over 54...

32. O'Reilly Viewers......

The craptor averages 2 million total viewers a night.

Of that 2 million roughly 400,000 to 500,000 are in the 25-54 demo.

The average age of a craptor viewer is 71 years old.

About 72% of craptor viewers are conservative, 4% are liberals, and roughly 24% are moderates.

Keith Olbermann may hit a million viewers a night someday, but I am betting that is about his limit, liberals just dont watch cable news as much as conservatives do.

And btw, O'Reilly has been stuck on 2 million total viewers a night for about 2 years now. He used to average 3.1 million viewers a night about 2.5 years ago, since then it has dropped to 2 million a night, and it continues to hold at 2 million.

7. Look at what happens when you compare the prime viewers to all their viewers!
Edited on Fri Feb-23-07 10:57 PM by rocknation
O'Reilly 450/2498 = 18%
Olbermann 309/808 = 38%

An advertiser who wants maximum bang for his buck is certainly going to prefer Keith's odds!

8. Greta over Anderson Cooper?????
Knowing the content and caliber of the many significant issues that Anderson Cooper reports on a daily basis compared to the same old retundant tabloid topics that Greta does day after day, and seeing that she has much higher ratings than he has is truly a very sad and pathetic testament to what Americans are most concerned with.

10. Bill O'Reilly brags about having the top rated show on all the cable news networks
but if you look at the 25-54 demographics, he is being beat by 3 other FOX programs (Hume, Greta, Hannity & Colmes).

Great news for Keith.

26. We did one years ago
Yeah, it was a by-mail questionnaire. They do a much smaller sample of families who agree to be 'wired' to have their viewing habits monitored live, which they use to cross-check the much larger mail and phone survey results.

We made a point of actually watching the New Twilight Zone (the only show worth watching at that time) so we could honestly vote for it. It was cancelled the next week :-(

15. CNN did poorly across the board. Am I the only one
surprised by this? (Although judging for myself, I've stopped watching CNN as 'religiously' as I used to. I never watch Zahn (K.O. infinitely preferred) or Cooper. Lou Dobbs I watch and Wolffie usually as background noise.)

Dobbs, once in a while, Olbermann ALWAYS, zahn NEVER, leslie blitzer sometimes, Cooper, once in a while (The Katrina effect has waned imo), FSTV/LINK a lot, etc. You get the idea. The Canned News Network (CNN) sucks. Faux, well, that goes without saying.

31. See this recent post by Will Pitt. I guess I've just recently
come to the conclusion that CNN is also 'faux' news or Canned News, as you put it. I never watch Fox. Pitt's article is about CNN's coverage of infotainment instead of real news; it's quite good.

he's gotten - the Rolling Stone article, interview in TV Guide, and his addition to NBC Nightly News. There are still lots of people who are just learning about KO, while Billo has pretty much reached his peak.

19. Nancy's and Greta's numbers have received a boost lately
from all the Anna Nicole news. Once that circus is well and truly over, they will go back down to their usual levels. But they always get a ratings boost from people who can't miss a good tabloid story when it comes along.

21. Out here in Northeastern Nebraska, FAUX was on in the local store
for quite some time. They have a large screen TV for those who decide to get something to eat from the restaurant area. I used to sit as far from the TV as possible to avoid the drivel, but in the last 3 months they have gone to CNN, My interest was piqued, and I asked why they changed; it seems as though the older group that usually comes in for breakfast/coffee in the AM, (farmers, farm implement suppliers and the like), requested they change because Fox and Friends was "shrill and meaningless", and Fox news was just plain "terrible". While CNN is not all that much better, the locals figure they are getting news instead of propaganda foisted by the RW, (odd since most of these people are GOP types).

As for Fox and Friends, the consensus was that the two morons bantering back and forth were so stupid, that Fox should be ashamed to allude that they have half a brain between them.

Kind of nice to know that in Nebraska, there are some pretty sensible people...:D

currently all the Fux people beat Keith: Gibson, Hume, Shepard, O'Reilly, H&C, Greta.

I know that there is this epic feud between Keith and O'Loofa, but the reality is that Amuricans aren't interested in news or truth or facts. They like what Fux gives them. Fux is their mega-church and they won't renounce their faith easily.
