How The Clintons Lost Geffen

February 24, 2007 -- IT isn't just presidential politics that has David Geffen bad-mouthing Sen. Hillary Clinton and throwing his support behind Sen. Barack Obama.

Sources say the diminutive movie mogul is motivated by jealousy because his old friend Bill Clinton now prefers the company of supermarket billionaire Ron Burkle. Geffen's animosity is also fueled by Burkle's attempt to buy the Los Angeles Times, which Geffen had wanted to purchase for himself. ....

Another Democratic source scoffed at Geffen's explanation for his disenchantment with Bill Clinton, (GEFFEN's) attributing it to Clinton's pardon of tax fugitive Marc Rich while failing to pardon American Indian activist Leonard Peltier, who was convicted of murdering two FBI agents.

"I never believed the pardon was the issue," said this politico. "Geffen is looking for a platform. He's frustrated and bitter. He's got all these billions, but he's still trying to prove his relevance."

2. Do you REALLY NEED to use right wing terms like "jihad"?
The article is a load of crap, BTW.

3. It was a word taken from the source, which was noted as wingnut in the o.p.
But, thanks, you two for blessing with your presence.

6. Seems like just yesterday (oh, it WAS yesterday), I was condescendingly lectured
Edited on Sat Feb-24-07 11:09 AM by UTUSN
by somebody obtuse on how "free speech" means tolerating content one disagrees with or which is abhorrent to one. It would appear to be obvious that posting something here does not equate with AGREEING with it. Oh, that might mean "discussion"---how alien a concept!!1

8. You have every right in the world to post that. I have every right to say it's crap.
That's how free speech works.

11. I did. Yep, I sure did post some free speech. I guess I have THAT concept down.
I usually don't remember names of posters, but I'm pretty sure it was you the other day who enlightened another poster in one of my (these) gossip threads on the difference between Cindy ADAMS and whassername GRUBMAN. Gossip is a big interest in NYC, ain't it?

corner.

Edited to add: I read Gothamist and New York Magazine. They sometimes print gossip. I don't read the NY Post, which I consider fishwrap.

9. Oh please, this is the scurrilous Page Six from Rupert Murdoch's NY Post. Don't

forget that Murdoch has softened his heart for Hillary.

BTW...I think it appalling that they refer to Geffen as diminutive...

Maybe, just maybe, Geffen like millions of others aren't pleased with Hillary because she's become middle of the roader and still hasn't apologized for her vote for the IWR
Here is the list of those who voted No and many had the same "Intelligence" that Hillary had.

10. Yeah, let's not forget that even Rupert Murdick held a fundraiser for Hillraiser...
anyone who'd receive money as a result of that bastard just isn't a Democrat.

13. This is Murdoch protecting HIS HORSE in the race. Rich pardon IS relevant to everything today
as Rich was really on the lam for being an ARMSDEALER for the BFEE - and was submitted for pardon by Scooter Libby.

IranContra, BCCI figure represented by Scooter Libby - gee - you think Clinton didn't KNOW that tax evasion charge was just a smokescreen?

14. both the NY Times and the NY Post are pumping Hillary's candidacy . . .
why has Hillary become the preferred candidate of the corporate media . . .

the same corporate media that leaves people uninformed, ill-informed, and mis-informed daily . . .

the same corporate media that gives wall-to-wall coverage to Anna Nicole's death and Britney's head while ignoring casualties in Iraq, conditions at Walter Reed, Cheney's "reception" overseas, etc. . .

the same corporate media that, for all intents and purposes, is the house organ for the ruling corporate class . . .

things that make you go "hmmm" . . .

16. Just how is the NYT pumping HIllary?
Can you put forth one OP piece or editiorial that indicates such? Do they run significantly more articles with more good things about her than other candidates? Of coure being a Senator from NY who's the first woman to mount a serious bid for the presidency, they're going to write about her.

And just where did the MoDO column in which Geffen bashed her, run? Hmm. That would be the NYT.

15. And This Ends The War How?
When the say it isn't about the money, it's about the money. The Clintons are upset someone broke into their Hollywood piggy bank and all the other rhetoric is ego and people who just can't shut up in front of a microphone. It has zero reflection on how things will be a year from now when the first primary ballots are cast or to address and deal with the issues all Democrats feel are more important right now (Iraq, economy, health care).

This episode bores me. It's all about gathering the money...the 200 plus million that any "serious" candidate needs to raise just to buy the TV time during the first few primaries. Then there's the next 200 million for the general election. We now live in an endless election cycle...fueled by an "underclass" of political operatives, "advisors" and campaign staffers who are out to justify their paychecks and gain points with "the boss". This year's year-long "primary season" as all it revolves around is the money.

Be assured this Democrat has his checkbook firmly locked for 2007. Next year, I expect it, once again, to go to local races where it's really needed.
