4. Hey, that works!
Nice!

I open The VLC Player and then click on "File". From the drop down menu I click on "Open Network Stream ...".

I then choose "HTTP/HTTPS/FTP/MMS". I then paste in the address you provided and click "OK".

My firewall tells me an application wants access to the web, I grant it, and I get the stream.

Very good free program with no BS, lots of geeks use it.

5. Probably something that isn't open source
ie anything not Linux.

As a Mac user I feel some sympathy, considering a lot of local news sites use Windows Media for streaming, and M$ dropped support for OS X.

At least not in Firefox or Safari.

13. Linux or other open source/free OSes don't qualify.
I can understand why, those a lot of it is due to myth. Still, it's their choice. Both CNN's... and the end-user's.

Buy a mac. (or a comparably equipped Windows PC for less than 1/3rd the cost...)

15. My brother finally just got rid of his ME pc
For a new Dell with Vista. That ME pc was a piece of junk and I dont know how he managed to hold on to it for 8 years.

16. I thinking of either downgrading to 98SE or trying to upgrade to XP.
I have enough ram, but hd is small.

17. I wouldn't even bother with 98se
Since its no longer supported. And XP will be the same way soon. I have Vista on my newly built computer, so far its been awsome.

18. Vista will not run on my machine at home
It's either XP or ME. Other than surfing DU and email, no other real needs.
